Could You Be Bathing in Embalming Fluid?
We all bathe on a regular basis, cleansing ourselves (and our children) with various products that we find on the shelves of our favorite stores because that is what we have always done, and frankly, so does everybody else. Not everyone knows that a common preservative in most of our daily hygiene products is a formaldehyde-releasing agent called Quaternium-15. When added to warm water, it releases formaldehyde, which is a well-known carcinogen, and yes, is what is used to preserve the bodies of our loved ones after death. Is this something you want preserving the products you use on a daily basis? One of the names most parents trust is Johnson & Johnson. We at least start to use these products as soon as we bring our precious babies home from the hospital and give them their first bath at home. Many of Johnson & Johnson baby products have Q15 in them as a preservative, so from the first bath we are introducing cancer-causing ingredients to our newborn’s delicate skin. Below is a table of some of the products from Johnson & Johnson that contain this ingredient. This information can be found in the US Dept of Health & Human Services’ Household Product Database1.
Johnson's Creamy Baby Oil
Johnson's Baby Bedtime Bath
Johnson's Baby Bath, Original
Johnson's Soothing Vapor Bath
Johnson's Soothing Skin Baby Bath
Johnson's Moisturizing Baby Bath with Aloe Vera & Vitamin E
Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Natural Lavender
Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Original
Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Honey & Vitamin E
Johnson's Baby Shampoo, 2 in 1 Detangler
Johnson's Baby Head to Toe Wash, Original
Johnson's Baby Head to Toe Body Wash, Tropical Blast
Johnson's Baby Head to Toe Body Wash, Berry Breeze
These are not the only products that we might find ourselves using in our house that contain this unnecessary ingredient. Other manufacturers that use Quaternium-15 are Cover Girl, Palmolive, Aveeno, Mr. Bubble, etc. There are many products that I have used in the past on the list found on the US Department of Health & Human Services webpage, and I will never use those products again. What are you using in your house that has Q15 in it?
