SHE HAS A REACTION THAT WAS ARTIFICIALLY FORMED INSIDE OF HER , FROM YEARS OF DEFENDING HERSELF .an instinct that’s never quite absent from her , even when almost entirely comfortable . there’s an immediate alarm tethered to her from attempted murders on her life from other siblings ( lower down , or just above her - the higher heirs saw her as a mere ant amongst their grand future ) . the alarm knotted itself into her and becomes hyper sensitive at the slightest feeling of a new presence , though she has become better at concealing her rooted paranoia .
THE ALARM RINGS WHEN ALPHONSE APPROACHES HER AFTER A PARTICULARLY RESTLESS SLEEP . immediately wary , she slides back , on her feet with kunai naturally sliding into her hands / she is alert and paranoid ! ready to fight for her life ! but then , his exclamation tears through her instinct , and a look of horrific realisation dawns amongst her face , as the kunai slips out of her hand .
❛ A - ALPHONSE … ! i ❜ the words are difficult to express , in a moment of absolute shame ( she was better than this ! she swore ! ) , and it takes her a heavy exhale before she can speak again . though , he speaks before she can , and its his words that truly bring her tumbling down .

SHE IS QUIET .she is in slight shock , again , before blinking out of the trance - like stare she found herself trapped in . not everyone will hurt her , she knows , she has placed trust in what they call a serial killer before . she has placed trust in anyone who will guide her , or follow her . but in that alarm of fear , when she was suddenly even younger again , recalling her first fight that could’ve lead to her death ( she was so young ; she still is ) , that trust didn’t exist . but , alphonse brings her back to the present : she is not that girl , she is not there - she is here . and here ? she’s not mei chang , the seventeenth princess of xing and heir , she is not competition to the throne ; she is just mei . and that makes her cry . it makes her cry because she is relieved , and also because she is ashamed of her actions .
