I mean— you ARE good, but I was pretty close the whole time too! I swear, I swear it would’ve been, you know, way closer if I didn’t get assaulted by shells the whole time, too— the game has it out for me today or something.” He shakes his head, wallowing in his loss for a few more moments, before pushing himself up again. “Can we rematch? You can pick the course if you want, I just have to defend my honor.”

he  misses  the  days  when  billy  got  to  be  the  uncontested  most  important  thing  in  his  life.  there’s  no  doubt  he’s  still  tied,  his  spot  at  the  top  of  teddy’s  list  solid  and  promised,  but  it’s  a  place  he  has  to  share,  a  consequence  of  royalty.  there’s  a  lot  about  their  new  life  that  isn’t  easy;  space  is  both  grand  and  isolating,  the  ship  is  nice  but  it  isn’t  home.  it’s  not  new  york.  teddy  has  to  make  quick  work  of  tamping  a  swell  of  guilt,  the  same  one  that  appears  anytime  he  becomes  distinctly  aware  of  just  how  much  billy’s  given  up  for  this.  for  him.  there’ll  be  plenty  of  time  to  feel  like  the  worst  husband  ever  later,  but  it  doesn’t  get  to  be  about  him  now.  ❛   thanks  for  telling  me,   ❜  he  takes  billy’s  hands  in  his,  a  gentle  determination  to  get  this  right.  he’s  tried  hard  not  to  give  false  hope,  still  in  the  midst  of  efforts  to  even  out  their  split  time,  but  he’s  not  confident  there’s  a  thing  he’d  say  no  to  in  the  moment.  ❛   what  can  i  do  ?  anything.  no  holds  barred.   ❜

❛   oh  my  god,  it’s  not  weird  !   ❜  how  many  times  and  to  how  many  people  is  he  going  to  have  to  explain  the  importance  of  skincare  ?  does  no  one  take  anything  seriously  these  days  ?  as  if  peter  wasn’t  enough,  he’s  spent  a  criminal  amount  of  time  on  the  couch  explaining  the  very  sensible  reasoning  behind  request.  there’s  no  possible  way  he  could’ve  made  it  any  clearer,  and  no  reason  why  bobby  should  be  so  opposed  to  acting  as  a  human  ice  roller.  ❛   we’ve  been  a  lot  closer  than  this  before,  bobby.  you’re  making  it  weird  by  not  massaging  my  face.  this  whole  thing  could’ve  been  done  in  five  to  ten  minutes.   ❜

❛   i’ve been trying to keep the speeches in space lately.   keep work and home life separate,   that sort of thing.   ❜   if the box of cereal in his hands knocks against the back of tommy’s head as he passes,   that’s not his business.  he couldn’t have stopped it.   he can’t stop his leg from shoving at tommy’s when he takes a seat on the opposite end of the couch,   either.   it’s just not a very big couch.   teddy is,   of course,   above taking offense on behalf of his ( very good ) speeches   !!   billy says they’re good,   anyway,   and if he lets himself go down the route of doubting how much his husband’s inflated that opinion it’ll be several hours down the drain.   they don’t have that much time before heading back up,   and billy should be back soon with kate and cassie in tow.   ❛   i just thought you said you weren’t coming.   ❜   he definitely can’t make a speech in between eating lucky charms marshmallows,   so he tosses the remote across cushions instead.   ❛   actually,  i’m pretty sure i asked you if you wanted to meet while we were here,   and you said no.   then i told you cassie and kate were visiting and you said fuck no   —   and now you’re on my couch.   ❜

     “  what does that even mean ? ” gert counters with a scoff, words punctuated with an eye roll for good measure. what a little sister thing to say. would it be nice to live in a world where one could simply throw caution to the wind and defy all logic ? of course. but they don’t. not even if they themselves defy logic ( a mutant and a girl that has a psychic connection with a dinosaur . . . not exactly the norm !! ). “ you need to think this through, molly. we all do. and we’ll come up with a plan, i promise. just . . . let me talk to nico at least. you just sit tight and wait. ” she’s aware that she’s being at least a bit patronizing, treating molly like a child when she’s promised to do, well, exactly the opposite. but impulses need curbing and molly needs a moment to cool her jets, to really think through her actions. “ facts are important. especially when we don’t have any room for mistakes right now. we can’t just storm in there.  ”
