★ third time's a [charm]
He waited in the lobby area with his hands surprisingly not splayed all over his seat, but rather placed neatly atop a plastic container. The blond glanced down at the item in question, whose bottom was decorated in pastel pink and polka dots; something that obviously contrasted with his rebellious-looking skull shirt and dog tags. But, that was him; and slowly but surely, with the help of his friends, he was beginning to exhibit his ‘true self’ more often in public. And in effect, people were coming to terms with it. Or so he hoped.
The shuffle of papers and voices of people leaving their offices made the teen’s head snap up and look over at the hallway, where Inaba’s detectives were leaving. Though, as he scanned the middle-aged, weary men, he could see no newspaper boy caps nor any blue suits. Naoto hadn’t come out yet, had she? Had he missed her? Grumbling to himself, Kanji found himself leaning back in his seat. She had just come back to Inaba after two weeks (which seemed like ages to him) after being on a case that had called her to leave the town in the first place. But now, seeing as how he had overheard from a couple of people that they had spotted her, Kanji had immediately gone home to whip something up for her. And so here he was, looking like an eager puppy ready to give his friend a ‘welcome back’ lunch of sorts.
It only took a couple more minutes of wretched waiting that he finally spotted her. struggling to get up in time, the rambunctious teen fumbled over to her side. “Aaah, h-hey, Naoto," he began, already feeling himself and his confidence diminish bit by bit. There was always something about Naoto that made him trip up; and he hated it. “Hey, uh, so…I, uh…heard you were back in Inaba after that case of yours. So I, uh…y-y’know. Made you something. I-It’s nothing freaking luxurious or anything, b-but.."
—Wait. What was that tingling twinge he felt by his mouth? Was that nerve, or…? Wait, no. Those were animal cracker crumbs. On the side of his mouth.
Well, shit.
Stiffening at the revelation, he could feel his cheeks fluster to a temperature even he thought couldn’t have existed. “C-Crap," he hissed under his breath, chiding himself and his clumsy actions as he slapped a hand onto his face and scrubbed the cracker crumbs from the edges of his lips. Who would have wanted a bento box from a kid who couldn’t even wipe his own mouth properly after a snack…?

((Of course of course! XD, though you can't expect Azula to do a good job at trying to get her to the dance but hey... she'll try in her own special way.))
