well, damn. this explains why my forward/backward and backward/forward knots all look like hell. I was doing both parts of the knots with the same string. The written instructions don't really make it clear the you need to do the first part of the knots with ONE of the strings and the 2nd part of the knot with the SECOND string.
Thank goodness for youtube videos!
