»@lua_ribeira (Lua Hlowa) turned her lens to England’s eastern county of Essex for a collaborative project with writer and curator @jesfernie that seeks to make space for new narratives. ⁠ ⁠ Fernie delved into the Magnum Archive earlier this year to explore representations of Essex and responded to her findings with the essay, The Peculiar People. Ribeira then spent five days photographing the locals and the landscape of Canvey Island in response to Fernie’s words. ⁠ ⁠ "A place that conjures such vivid, often negative, responses and stereotypes is, it turns out, a place worth exploring.
