On August 25, 1778, George Washington wrote a letter to Henry Laurens and ended it with this paragraph.

George Washington letting Henry Laurens know that John was well on the 23rd when he last heard from him is so sweet and shows the tender affection Washington felt for John.

I was unable to find the original but on this day in 1779, Hamilton sent Laurens this letter.

OTD in 1778, Laurens sent Hamilton his, “fuck him up, babe” letter regarding Charles Lee, the little bitch.

Account of a Duel between Major General Charles Lee and Lieutenant Colonel John Laurens, [24 December 1778]

Here is the account of the duel that took place today between John Laurens and Charles Lee in 1778. It’s authored by both Hamilton and Evan Edwards, Lee’s second. 

Let’s not forget that Lee is in his 40′s and our Laurens is in his 20′s and a Lt. Col at this time. Let that sink in for a minute and remind us all what a badass Laurens really was.

This letter is from the day that John left Martha behind and started his journey home. Interesting that he encounters Benjamin Franklin so quickly. So much of John’s life feels fated to me.
