There’s something about their first night back in the castle together. It’s always been this way. Hyped off eating too much food from the welcome feast and just being back around sparks of magic makes it almost impossible to sleep on that first night.
It’s nearing eleven and the four boys are still awake; sitting on their beds giggling and laughing as Harry takes a sweet and suddenly roars like a lion. The sound so realistic and loud that all the boys stare in shock for a split second before bursting out into laughter.
“Get out of here,” Louis shouts, pushing at Harry’s shoulder as he laughs, “There ain’t no room for any Gryffindors in here.”
Niall cackles, throwing at sweet in Louis’ direction; “Could you imagine ‘im as a Gryffindor?”
The boys laugh and Harry just pouts, arms crossed. “Hey! I would be the most loyal, trustworthy and courageous Gryffindor you ever saw.”
“Sure you would,” Louis says as he leans into Harry, bumping their shoulders together with his lips pressed into a smile.
“Could you imagine if we all got sorted into different houses?” Liam asks, a frown on his face. “Do you reckon we’d still be mates?”
Niall and Harry share a glance before shrugging.
“Who knows,” Harry says.
“Glad we don’t have to find out, eh?” Niall says.
“Don’t know what I would do without you lads, if I’m being honest,” Louis shrugs, picking at his fingernails.
Liam reaches over from where he’s sitting by the foot of Niall’s bed and touches his knee gently. “Me too.”
“Okay,” Niall says, “We couldn’t live without each other, we get it. Louis, dare you to eat three sweets at the same time and see what happens?”
“Fuck yeah,” Louis says, putting his hands out for Niall to drop the small beans into.
And when Louis does an impression of a snake, a cat and a mouse all at the same time, the other boys can’t help but burst out into raucous laughter, probably waking up the rest of the dungeons.
