Illustrator [Ai] Skills Show & Tell; Graphic 2 : Part 2.
For the second image in Graphic 2 I followed the same procedure as the first image. By first having an image to work with. Here I chose a Fish Skeleton as my image. This was because I could also use it in the same project in another class.
To start off, I created an outline of each section of the Fish, I first did the head, then the body & tail, and then finally the ribs. Each of these were initially created on their own distinct layer so that the paths did not clash, and were brought into one single layer and arranged.
After creating the outline, I duplicated it and filled in each of the shapes with a colour selected from the reference image. I removed the outline on this.
Unfortunately due to some overlapping with the Outline of the Ribs and the Fill in the body, I had to do the Rib Colour and Outline completely separately to the rest of the Fish. This was alright though as it just meant I had to create two other layers for the Rib Outline and Colour.
Once the Solid Colour was added in all over the fish, I added in some small additions of colour to represent shading on the fin, and the spine of the skeleton.
Once all of that was complete I had my final image, as seen below.
Overall I really enjoyed this project, working through it both at home and at school was a nice addition to the workflow as well. I’m really happy with how everything came out and I enjoyed the challenge in some areas.
