Excerpt from a Sgaeyl POV - Xaden's Threshing fanfic I may or may not publish
My claws slash through the air like swords. He leaps out of the way, the blade rapping the back of my talon as he does a passing swing. Not nearly enough to cut through the scales, but the effort makes me chuckle. He turns and rushes forward, poised to strike. “Caution he does not cut you,” Tairn’s low voice rumbles down the bond. One half of my heart tugs West, to the warm, distant cliffs where he suns his wings.
“You woefully underestimate me, if you think this boy can land a blow against me that I do not allow.” My tail knocks the human back, sending him flying. “And you interfere. I thought you had no interest in Threshing?” “I am interested in you. I thought you more efficient than one who plays with their food,” he muses. Ire heats my blood. “When you choose to rise from your loins and bless us with your presence, you may test a human as you see fit.” The boy rises and faces me squarely. A wild grin tugs at the corners of his mouth, and he has the audacity to beckon for more. I feel Tairn’s eyeridges lift. “Perhaps you threw him too hard.” “Then he should have worn a helmet.” I throw my shields up, sealing the contact away, and I charge across the meadow, my talons ripping up the earth.
