A brief argument for the whole fox control in Britain thing
First off, I AM NOT BACKING TRADITIONAL FOX HUNTING. I’m not a fan of the really rather barbaric chase of a wounded and tired animal. It’s cruel and disrespectful to the fox. However, the fox is a vermin species. It targets pets, such as rabbits, wild creatures, some of which are incredibly rare, such as the partridge, and scavenges in urban areas, which disrupts our lives. Yes, we have caused some of this, through the rapid urbanisation of rural areas, but the population of foxes still needs to be under control, for the sake of their prey. So, foxes are a pain, but traditional hunting is too cruel. What happens next? Currently in Britain, what happens to control fox populations is the use of snares (special ones which are only tight enough to trap the target species and age of fox) or night shooting, where people pick them off using high powered rifles. Does this still sound excessive to you? If it does, do you have an alternatives? To be honest, I live in the suburbs but have come from a shooting family so I may be biased. Fox populations do need to be controlled though, and I feel that these are fairer, and less cruel, ways to do so, rather than causing excess pain and distress to the one animal being hunted.
Sources, guys! It’s reliable! These are both ‘shooting’ sites so may be subject to bias
