Sorry if somebody already asked this, but what are your Fox headcanons? 🥹 I really like the way you interpret Ren/Fox!
I'll admit, I haven't played YKMET, but... I need that old man so had I should be locked away for life.
Fox still canonically likes anime. But, I think on quieter days, he'll make you watch the older animes from when he was younger. He'd also watch the remakes and bitch the whole time but he's having fun.
And he's still as much as a gooner as before, except now his tastes are refined. It doesn't matter what gender you are, put the stockings and custom made cat ears on.
Completely off topic but I genuinely think he has Old Man Back Pain. Like, not anything too bad but, despite being very limber and strong he still has some level of it.
Someone already said this (I can't remember who but shhh) but when he feels safe, like actually safe and close, you can sometimes see sparks of the young man he used to be. A lively twinkle in his eye that isn't sharp, the way his hands gesture when he's rambling in an excited way, it's just glimpses but (sobs loudly)
He's less unstable when it comes to rejection. Fox is still a little shit, don't get me wrong, but he's remarkably hard to make genuinely upset. He's hardened, less prone to the bouts of anxiety that would have causes the Ren in his 20's to electrocute you until you sobbed. He's crueler, more calculated, but... He's safer in that sense.
Hes still generous with his gifts, sometimes he just gives you fancy gifts just to feel that sense of pride and pleasure. You don't want a Loius Vuitton bag? Better not act like it or else he'll call out ungrateful and then he might become disgruntled.
His tail is much thinner than before (sigh, hair loss) but it's still soft and he still uses products to keep it clean. You can't tell, unless he somehow shows you a picture from when he was younger.
I like to think of younger Ren viewing his pet like a dog: he wants enthusiastic reciprocation. That would make Fox's pet more of a cat: it's okay if it's more distant, as long as it behaves.
i've thought a lot about how unusual it was for arceus (the creator god of existence itself) to take a simple subway boss and transport him 100 years back in time, to a place far from his home. was it because of his great knowledge about pokémon? if so, why the amnesia? did he do it for entertainment?
i want to emphasize that last part.
(cw: little mention of self harm, legends za spoilers) a little thought combining blankshipping with arceus and his strange action of transporting ingo to the past.
it's a silly idea that came to me, but i imagine that the one who is literally God and the being who represents the devil in the pokémon world (aka arceus and giratina) started "playing" with the subway bosses just for fun.
since they are gods (for me, the creator trio also counts as gods), i imagine that they somehow knew about the "impure" feelings that ingo and emmet had for each other (by impure feelings, i mean falling deeply in love with each other despite being twins), so they began to play with them.
giratina would create situations to bring them closer, while arceus would counteract those situations to push them away.
ingo and emmet would feel that strange pressure on their shoulders, whether they were romantically involved or separated, just being a normal pair of siblings. this would take a toll on their mental health. but despite feeling "bad" when they are together, they decide to be together anyway, because love is stronger than anything else (or so we believe for now).
it doesn't matter if a simple kiss caused them physical or mental health problems, it's worth going through all that, because when they kissed (and did other things that a romantic couple might do) they felt so good.
by this i mean that giratina is winning this game.
but hey! arceus wasn't going to sit there and do nothing.
taking advantage of the fact that something chaotic was about to happen in a timeline, arceus thought about the best way to get them away: transporting one of them to that timeline and erasing his memory.
arceus won.
gods like arceus and giratina have no idea how fragile human life is, how fragile both the physical and mental health of humans is. with this little game between gods, they completely destroyed ingo and emmet.
ingo retained some knowledge about pokémon, but his severe amnesia, being in a completely unfamiliar place, being rejected by the native people of that place for coming from that threatening rift in the sky (except for the pearl clan leader), and not knowing who he was, where his home was, who his family was... it put him in a state of anxiety and restlessness. where would he find the answers to so many questions?
on the other hand, emmet lived with uncertainty. his older brother disappeared completely without a trace. searching everywhere for him, not knowing if something had happened to him or if he had left of his own will, feeling his insides twist with nerves and wanting to vomit from pure suffering and pain...
they were both devastated in their own way, but for the same reason: being apart. ingo only has emmet, and emmet only has ingo. how could they not feel loneliness slowly eating away at them? and all because two gods wanted to play with them.
and to complement the ending that we got in legends za:
at some point, arceus and giratina decided it was time to leave them alone. while living with humans in hisui, arceus noticed ingo's condition.
for his part, giratina saw how emmet fell and fell, even going so far as to harm himself with candle burns and cuts on his arms to dissuade the pain and continue searching for ingo.
they decided it was time for everything to go back to normal.
taking into account ingo's "it's time for me to return," i'm going to assume that arceus appeared before him at some point and explained why he took him there, telling him that it was because of his great knowledge of pokémon battles and that his task of guiding people in this had already been accomplished. he completely omitted his little game with giratina to avoid upsetting him further.
arceus gave him back all his memories and returned him to his home: the arms of his beloved little brother.
or there could be another ending (personally, my preferred ending), with giratina taking emmet to hisui through a space-time distortion and reuniting him with his beloved older brother. after a while, they would return to their timeline in unova. together.
either way, ingo and emmet end up okay, and giratina and arceus (don't) learn a lesson about human fragility.
All these head canons about Fox wanting to self-unalive but where are the hc’s about the reason he hasn’t yet? what if the only reason fox is alive still is that he is the only thing standing between palps and some gruesome rule that he’s wanting to enforce on the coruscant guard. Maybe Fox is the only thing keeping the guard safe so he pushes through dealing with palps and life in general so he can keep his brothers free but he can’t tell anyone or else he’ll risk being outed
