Recently, we discovered a new restaurant that had taken the place of another which had gone out of business at the same location. We had a sense of their impending doom when every time we ordered a favorite from their menu we were told it was no longer on offer. So much for listening to your customers, but that's a story for another time. The point is, the new owner of the new establishment sees fit to serve brunch until 5pm, which I see as the only civilized way to operate as I refuse not only to leave my bed but my abode as well just because a restaurant wants to cut you off at 8:30am and I absolutely refuse to rise to that bait. Brunch--as opposed to breakfast--is the most important meal of the day and should not be treated in such a reprehensible fashion. They serve their Eggs Benedict with smoked chorizo instead of Canadian bacon and I commend them for it. Growing up in Los Angeles' west side, many fine establishments offered a first-rate brunch; the Fox and Hounds at Wilshire & 29th and the Tail o’ the Cock on La Cienega were favorites but the crown jewel was Scandia on the Sunset Strip. As a family, we went there more often than not and it was always a pleasure to visit the buffet offering and look out through the vast windows overseeing Los Angeles. Not too many people are aware of the fact that Scandia offered dinners in their wine cellar--maybe up to a dozen guests with your own staff attending to your needs. I quite liked it and I can only say that it is a shame that Scandia is gone though the building still remains on the Strip as a reminder of what was. Its disappearance is sadly imminent... #brunch #eggsbenedict #ramosginfizz #scandia #foxandhounds #tailo'thecock #sunsetstrip https://www.instagram.com/n3actes/p/BuObsv5l6BV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3qn291nllt9i
