New Years Kiss.

It’s unexpected. Admittedly. Although Nico does have a thing for blondes - widely known by now - he had been under the impression that Narutos eyes and heart lay elsewhere. To find his company on tonight of all nights is a surprise. A welcome one, in fact.

Nico is normally quite blind to flirtations. He’s oblivious, and has been told so. But Naruto -- for all his talent in the area, doesn’t let Nico remain ignorant. It’s obvious, with lingering eyes and lowered tone. Honestly? He didn’t know Naruto had that side to him.

It does as it’s supposed to, he thinks. For when the countdown strikes and lips find his, there are no objections. No complaints. Hand cradles Narutos jaw, own lips parting in approval and invitation.

There were too many places he could really start with. The fact that he was alive being first and foremost. It seemed that Naruto didn’t even care about the potential political fallout of this, as if he could keep Minato safe from everything. There were some battles that couldn’t be fought no matter how much he wished, or how strong someone was.

There was always someone stronger. Always.

Really, there were too many problems for him to list, and Minato wasn’t about to be selfish enough to drop them all onto his son’s shoulders. Naruto was the Hokage. He had the village to worry about, and he didn’t need his father’s own concerns on top of everything else. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right to just come back and dump all of his problems onto Naruto.

(Sleepless nights, PTSD, nightmares, panic attacks, what wasn’t wrong with him in reality?)

“Ah-”

He gives a smile, strained around the edges, pained in a way that he can’t quite hide in front of Naruto.

“Nothing. It’s nothing.”

He couldn’t burden Naruto, not after all that he had done for him. Not after all that he continued to do for Minato. There was hardly anyone else alive that would put up with him, and really, what right did he have to dump his emotional baggage on the son that he had abandoned as a baby?

“It’s nothing. Don’t worry about me.”

He could - would handle it. As he always had.
