There's also a bit of information on the other characters mentioned in this story.
Eliza obviously didn't have the best childhood growing up.
Her mother was cold and heartless, and would treat her horribly if she messed up on a certain task. Sometimes, it would even result in her beating Elizabeth pretty badly... For example, Mari was drunk one time while scolding Elizabeth, and ended up hitting her over the head with a glass bottle.
At some point, it got so bad that Elizabeth had to wear a red sweater to hide the damage on her skin. And she never told anyone at school about what was happening at home.
Her father was sadly no longer around to protect her, due to her mother divorcing him.
Wilbur, Blaire and Basil.
The three that bullied Elizabeth throughout her childhood, mainly because of her features.
They would pick on her during recess and even during lunch, and would throw balls of paper at her while she tried to focus in class.
Nathan
Nathan was the only friend Elizabeth had in school, and he was always extremely protective over her. Despite how shy he was, he stuck by Elizabeth's side everyday in order to keep her safe.
Once he realized Elizabeth was being abused after Blaire ripped the sleeve on her shirt, he only grew even more protective of her, but there wasn't much he could do.
Miss Meredith
Miss Meredith was Elizabeth's elementary school teacher, and she felt a lot safer in the woman's presence.
Miss Meredith was always motherly towards Elizabeth, and hated it when other students picked on her.
One day, Elizabeth finally opened up about what was going on at home, Miss Meredith was absolutely furious.
Eventually, she adopted Elizabeth, and Mari lost custody of her own child.
Elizabeth lived with Miss Meredith ever since, but eventually moved out at the age of 19.
