Visiting the Metropolis Public Library has been a Saturday tradition for you and Clark since you started dating almost two years ago. Starting off the weekend with a new book or two for the upcoming week was what you needed for inspiration on your latest short story in the Daily Planet and exactly what Clark needed to unwind after a long week of saving the world.
Dressed in a pair of sweatpants and one of Clark’s sweatshirts, the two of you walked side by side, hands intertwined and swinging between you. Being with Clark was way different than anyone else you had ever been with. Clark Kent, sweet Clark Kent from Smallville Kansas, had made you feel like the only girl in the world.
Clark knew about your insecurities, the ones you grew up with that were buried deep inside your heart. You had always been insecure about the way you looked, about the extra curves on your body, about growing up and not being able to share clothes with friends or spending Friday nights alone while friends were on dates. However when the sweet giant who sat at the desk across from you at The Daily Planet stumbled over his words when asking you for coffee you couldn’t say anything but yes, and the rest is history. Some days you questioned if this, being with sweet and understanding Clark was all just a dream. Why would this gentle giant be with you when he could choose a model thin blonde?
“Sweetheart? You okay?” Clark questioned, taking you from your intrusive thoughts.
“Yea, I’m fine Clark. Don’t worry,” you answered, not wanting him to worry about how you were feeling insecure. You knew if you said anything the two of you would spend hours going in circles with him trying to reassure you that you were exactly the girl he wanted.
Clark squeezed your hand and looked towards you, trying to get you to open up; “You look upset, I just want to help.”
There was no way you were going to burden him with your insecurities, but you knew he wouldn’t stop asking what you were thinking about until he got your answer. Begrudgingly you answered his plea, “I’m just in my head right now, it’s not bad or your fault or anything.”
“Baby, I think you’re perfect. Let’s get out of that pretty little head, okay?” Clark reassured you, trying to make you feel sane again.
“Do you ever wish I looked like all those girls on the covers of magazines?” You questioned softly, not fully thinking before speaking.
“God Y/N, I think you’re amazing. I couldn’t ever want anyone else when I have my perfect girl right in front of me. The first thing I noticed about you when we met wasn’t your weight or your body, it was your heart, your character,” He started, wanting to keep you from feeling lesser than, “Baby I can benchpress three of you, hell I can deadlift three of you. You think I care if you have a little extra to hold? I love your curves, I love holding you and cuddling at night, I love everything about you. You don’t have to change anything about yourself for me to love you.”
God, you could feel your heart ache with love. Clark had always been sweet, never making you feel like less, but hearing him say out loud that you were perfect was so much different.
“You know you’re the Eugene to my Rapunzel? You’re like totally disney prince perfect.” You giggled, not knowing how to respond without crying in the street.
“There’s that smile I love, been waiting to see that all morning,” Clark teases, making you smile even bigger, hiding your face in your hands.
Clark held the door open for you when you reached the library, wanting to be the gentleman Ma Kent raised him to be. And there you were in utter bliss in your safe spot with your perfect boyfriend who never made you feel like you had to change yourself to be loved by him.
