Amperage and her doggy Wattz!!
Lonicera (snapper) is the owner of the Flower Bed Inn and Tavern, along with his husband Whiskey (nocturne). Also pictured here are Kukru, the town doctor (corven based on a jungle fowl), and Ilo, a papermaker (spiral). It's a pretty typical tavern situation; Lonicera brews the alcohol and Whiskey does the books. You can get a meal and a bed there, and it's chill and cool. I went with some concave bar stools as being able to hold various cushions for shorter patrons, and generally just feel a little more secure to perch on. Anyone much taller than Ilo here typically just sits on the floor or pulls up one of the ottoman-type furniture that is available. Whiskey's leanback rocking chair here is kind of a big scoop with a cushion and a hole for his tail in the back. The chair is rocked by pushing on the floor with his tail.
Pavona and Panavo are dancers at the Grand Canopy Theater in Gladeveins City! They're one of the regular acts at the theater, but it also hosts plays and operas and performing mages and all sorts of fun stuff. It's one of the biggest indoor spaces in the Viridian Labyrinth, which doesn't tend to have a lot of large indoor spaces. The dancer couple are well-known and well-liked local celebrities, and they often host very well-attended parties at their villa. They don't go on tour to other territories often, but every year they make the trip to Wispwillow for Trickmurk Circus festivities.
Dot and Poxfoot are archaeologists from the Lanternlea Museum, specializing in Pre-Shatter beastfolk history. They were at the forefront of efforts to uncover artifacts of the ancient Sunbeam Talonok nation from amongst the ruins of the Hewn City, as well as overseeing the sites that frequently get unearthed when new construction is started in Mirrorlight or Beacon's Gate. They are currently based in Podsgarden, as it is the closest city to their new subject of research: the ruins of a vast, ancient Serthis metropolitan complex hidden several leagues into the forest west of town. A clan of Serthis lives nearby, possibly descendants, and they regularly interact with Podsgarden, but they mostly avoid the ruin. The generational fractures that the Serthis community experiences sometimes leads to small breakoff groups that will take up residence in the ruin for a while, but no one has lived there long-term for centuries. (subject to change when they redo Serthis lore lol).
Poxfoot's name comes from a superstition of his birth herd: he was given an "unpleasant" name to discourage the attention of unfriendly spirits after the herd lost a foal shortly before he was born.
Weaver and her wife, a centaur named Mayuri Dapplemane! They are both tailors in Podsgarden. They do tend to specialize in dragon and beastclan apparel respectively, but they collaborate often on projects. They're also both emigrants from Dragonhome, which is where the Dapplemane herd originated.
Travels With Talonok
A Flight Rising zine by @flightdescending and @deer-rising
I realized that, while I have posted parts of this project a million times before, I don't have a post that compiles the entire zine in one place. This can be done somewhat efficiently with full spreads rather than individual pages but I just never thought to do that before for some reason. So here it is again! The whole thing! This was made in 2022, a few months before the Beastclans retcon, so its overall tone isn't entirely in line with canon anymore, but that's ok. It's just pretend :)
If you want to actually read it a bit more legibly, see individual pages here.
we all just generally agree that mirror babies are one of the top three babies right!!
(art of Juno the cutest baby that isn't a snapper)
its rambles #3 except i dont feel like i got good rambles in me rn oh well here we go
Nemo is a dream scholar and adventurer, known as a "Sleepwalker". He explores the dream realm for his own research and curiosity, but also professionally. A Lot of information can be gleaned by the exploration of a person's subconscious -- helpful in memory recall, psychotherapy, and prophecy -- and on Sornieth, which is completely saturated with magic, that subconscious actually does create a physical plane that can be explored. Dreams are temporary, fragmented planes, held together in a vast and hazy extraplanar network, and they are haunted by at least three distinct entities that Nemo must deal with almost every time he enters the realm: Mimsy, the avatar of good dreams and restful slumber; Bleak, the avatar of nightmare and insomnia; and Hocus, the avatar of surrealism and silliness. They appear to him as dragons usually, although of course they can be anything. Nemo is not entirely sure about whether or not they are able to get out onto the material plane, but he suspects that they can. Especially Hocus. It's very possible, however, that it's the very act of exploring Dream that has created these entities and the dangers of the realm. Some argue that this kind of tampering is what led to the downfall of the Second Age civilization, and "sleepwalking" is generally seen as needlessly reckless (not to mention invasive).
