The Ideal City, Fra Carnevale (Bartolomeo di Giovanni Corradini), circa 1480, Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, 2019.
One of a set of three (the other two are in European collections), this painting illustrates 1) the command of perspective so new in 1480 and essential to western art thereafter, and 2) the phantasies of city planners. Given that admission is free, it is worth a trip to the Walters just to see this work, but the museum has lots of other treasures for a long visit.
