Haunt Me
“Daddy? Can I ask you something?” The tiny brunette spoke up as she settled into the bed. For a moment there was a pause of silence as the man stopped in the threshold, turning towards the bed. His face softened as he approached the pink cladded bed, sitting down upon the edge. “Of course love, you can always ask me anything.” With a small yawn the five year old sat up straight, looking her father in the eye as if she was about to ask a very serious question. “While I was helping clean today I found a picture of this woman and she was very pretty with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. I was just wondering who she was and why you had her picture.”
For a moment there was a glazed over look in the man’s emerald eyes as he stared down at his daughter, to clear the air he quickly cleared his throat. There was only one person that this picture could be of, Alaska Young. His first love, his first kiss, his first loss – there were many firsts there. Still till this day his heart would feel a dull ache at the mention of her name and the thought of her demise. This was supposed to be their life together, but now he had made a new life for himself. The man by the name of Freddie Baggins slowly leaned down closer to his daughter, brushing her hair back slightly. “Well, that picture is of a very special lady. She was my first love.” He stated, watching as his daughter’s eyes widen slightly. “Do you still love her?”
Freddie pursed his lips for a moment before giving a small nod, “Whenever you love someone you never really stop loving them and there will always be a piece of her in my heart.” This only made his daughter more curious than she was before. “What happened to her? Tell me about her!” Freddie let out a small chuckle in response to her enthusiasm and tilted his head to the side. “Well, she was a beautiful soul. She was one of those people that you never regret meeting, no matter what happens. She was adventurous, lovable, kind-hearted, and empathetic. While she had a rough past she was still able to come out as a strong person. She made me feel amazing and she saved me when I was at my lowest point in life.” He paused for a moment, feeling the sensation of tears pricking his eyes. “Honestly, without her I would not be here today.” His daughter sat very still, listening attentively. “So, what happened to her…?” She questioned, feeling a bit impatient. “Well, she was murdered… unfortunately sometimes the best people are taken from us and we have no control over that.”
A sad expression formed on his daughter’s face as she rested her head against the pillow. “That’s sad, daddy. I’m sorry…” She murmured as she clutched onto her stuffed animal rabbit. Freddie shook his head as he leaned down to press a gentle kiss upon her forward. “Don’t be sorry, love. She’s still watching over us – even you. Now do me a favor and get some shut eye.” The girl nodded her head in an obedient manner and closed her eyes tight. “Good night Alaska.” With that Freddie rose up from the bed and crossed over to the other side of the room to kiss the top of his son’s head who was already drifted off to sleep. Once he was finished tucking in his children he turned off the lights and closed the bedroom door, leaving it slightly cracked.
“She’s a wonderful girl, Freddie.” That familiar voice still sent chills down his spin. He turned to face Alaska who looked just as youthful as the day they had last kissed. “Just like her namesake.” With that they exchanged smiles before Alaska faded off once again, left to watch in the shadows.
His Lost Angel: A Fralaska Death Mix
“You can't just make yourself matter and then die, Alaska, because now I am irretrievably different, and I'm sorry I let you go, yes, but you made the choice. You left me Perhapsless, stuck in your goddamned labyrinth. And now I don't even know if you chose the straight and fast way out, if you left me like this on purpose. And so I never knew you, did I? I can't remember, because I never knew.”
