of course she’d say something like that. not that mark knows her that well yet, but from the little he’s gathered from max and, yes, even rachel, before her ‘unfortunate disappearance,’ it comes as no surprise to him that chloe would use witty comebacks as a way of distancing herself from others… giving a small shrug of his shoulders, he offers her a smile in return.

  “ well, you can call me an optimist, but i’d like to believe that everyone has a good side.”

“That’s not optimistic, that’s just straight up bull. shit.” 

Chloe scoffs, rolling her eyes at the Blackwell professor. Of course Max likes him... what with the ‘shit don’t stink’ attitude and repulsive ‘sunshine and rainbows’ outlook on life. At least Naivety on Max is cute. When it’s coming from a fully grown man it’s just creepy, he should know better. 

“Hey but whatever you need to believe dude... Good and bad’s an abstract concept anyway.”

       “ now, now, don’t get me wrong. i’m not saying that everyone is a saint, or even a good person for that matter. what i meant is that even the worst of people probably has some good qualities to them  —  like how you hear about serial killers who had a normal life and a happy family, as an example,”  he explains, once he realizes that he might’ve formulated himself in a way that could be misinterpreted.

it had almost become a habit at this point. not wanting to push the harsh reality onto the still pure and naive students of his, mark usually put up a more hopeful, naive facade himself. so much so that he had to remind himself that he didn’t need to do that around others - at least not to that extent.

  “ and like you said, good and bad is pretty much what we make of it as individuals. what’s viewed as good to some, might be viewed as bad to others, and the other way around, right? so… who’s to say what’s really good and bad?”

                            “Now you’re speaking my language teach. Usually the very people who shouldn’t be allowed to decide.” 

Chloe states, crossing her arms against her chest. 

                           “My step-douche is a perfect example of that.” 

She adds with a smirk. She may have a few selfish reasons for not liking David, but since her and Max had found his secret stash of Blackwell student files she figured the dislike was now more than justified.
