Raised on the sunny beaches of Málaga, Spain, Fran Mart (@franmart_) was always drawn to the earthy ocher, copper and wooden tones more commonly found in other countries. “Part of me felt like I belonged somewhere else,” he says. Four years ago, after a family tragedy urged him to rethink his goals, he found answers and purpose in photography.
Fran moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, and in the landscape of his new home, he discovered the part of himself he’d been seeking. “Nature is about connections; we’re all a part of it,” he says. Fran’s photos reflect his journeys through Scotland; he’s often accompanied by a faithful companion, James MacGregor, his 1-year-old Weimaraner puppy. “I remember the first time I took him to the mountains. He ran along a precipice, the wind was blowing through his long ears, he turned around and I could see how happy he was. He understands it, too.”
