Well then, look at it this way: editing art is the same thing as reposting art, but as long as you link to the original artist everybody seems to be okay with it, so why should editing something and giving credit be different? Tumblr is filled with art that links to pixiv, for example. If you don't give any source, of course everybody explodes, but if you do give source then you're actually just providing the link to its creator. No one says that the edits are better than the originals.

nonononononooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo are you fucking kidding me.

Ok, see, artists on pixiv aren't stupid. A lot of them know what tumblr is. They know how it works. In fact, a lot of them actually have tumblr blogs. So, they are perfectly aware of how simply reposting art works - you just put the image on the blog, add the source, and post. And they don't mind that! Because a lot of them know their art is going to be reposted at some point anyway, and there's nothing they can do about it. 

What you're doing when you edit art is altering the image entirely.

Ok, let's go with analogies here.

If I made a painting and put it in a gallery, and somebody made a carbon copy and put it in their own gallery and made a little plaque that said "painting - riningear - original in NYC," that would be reposting art. 

Editing art would be making that carbon copy and painting over certain areas to make it "look brighter," then saying that it's the same exact thing and putting it up. Guess what? It's not.

It's an rude to the artist to say that it's the same thing, and it's especially insulting and selfish because you're basically saying, "I like this work! But hmm, it's not good enough for me. Personally, I want to see it like this. So let me edit it a bit so that it's good enough for me." Hey, guess what? Artists aren't out there to please you, and you alone. If you don't like the work as-is, then don't bother touching it.

Either you post it as it is or don't reblog it at all.

I gave credit for the original and I did not claim the art as my own, so I honestly do not understand why would you even choose to sound smart when there are clearly a lot of people who edit art out there. Have a nice day.

Admin C: Yeah, and there are a lot of people who steal from stores, but that doesn't make it any more acceptable. 

A lot of artists from sites that you take art from don't want their stuff used and edited in that fashion in the first place. Like, some won't mind, but you have to at least ask before you use it.

It's like borrowing something from someone without permission, like soap from a roommate or a car from your parents - it's probably annoying to find out that you did it, and they would've been fine had you asked, but now that you went ahead and did it, they lose a lot of trust and get upset and all that jazz. And it's even worse if they would've said no to start with. 

...so really, editing is fine, but editing without permission isn't. 

If you want to edit things, there are plenty of stock images on sites such as DeviantART that artists are perfectly fine with you using.
