The decision crystallises when you wake up to find Scott at his laptop, hair sticking out at all angles, his face awash in the glow of his screen. You thought about your job, how you didn’t need to do half the work Scott was doing for his, and the thought of raising a child while moving up the career ladder was still daunting. Scott was building a business from the ground up. A child and a new relationship just didn’t fit into the equation, so you’d do him the favour of taking one of those options out. “I can feel you staring me down,” he deadpans.
