university life was just like everything you had dreamed of.
the campus was beautiful; the cleanly trimmed bushes and trees, the flower beds that were decorated with your universities signature colours, and the gorgeous fountain at the opening entrance to the main building. not only was it aesthetically pleasing for everyone involved, but the people that attended it were kind; despite the odd stuck-up rich and entitled prick in every class, everyone on the campus had been nothing but warm-hearted. some were the type to bake weekly treats and bring the extras to their classes and offer you some, others would always make sure everyone could be heard and had a voice, sometimes, the groups of introverts would mingle with the extroverted people – it always made for a fun sight while walking to class.
even the sororities and fraternities held the most genuine people – squashing most of the prejudice and stigma that surrounded them. and in all honesty, who could blame you for assuming the worst about houses of men and women who, for the most part, ruled over their respective universities who partied hard on the weekends and had a continuous hangover throughout the remainder of the week – something that repeated like clockwork once friday rolled around.
kappa nu theta – a sorority that reigned supreme over the rest of the ones located on or around the campus. with a group of close-knit girls who favoured loyalty over all else. the sorority had become home to you early on in your university experience.
when wandering the main outdoor walkway of the campus, simply browsing and observing the stands that lined either side, you had been roped into a mini introduction by the head girl herself, kim doyeon.
the girl was an instant sense of familiarity in the otherwise unknown and scary new place – despite never having met her before that very day, never having seen or heard of her, and having shared but few words about yourselves personally, the two of you could tell that the bond was there in an instant.
you were quickly adopted into the house by the older girls, from there, you had met the rest of the occupants of the sorority – gahyeon, yeji, lia, chaeryeong, yuqi, and shiyeon, not counting the girls who were to join the sorority once the correct age – ones you had met at the formal events for the alumni’s and currant sorority sisters; those girls being daughters of said alumni – destined to join the sorority since birth.
it was a birthright to them.
while university life had been easy to adapt to due to the calmness of the campus as well as the support from your sorority sisters (or more so considered your new best friends) – nothing could compare to the at first, seemingly easy-going and classy house life of a sorority girl.
it was chaotic, fast-paced, obnoxiously loud at times, and had little boundaries between everyone – but these things were superficial, and would just take some time to get used to.
frantic knocking on your door startled you away from your computer, barely having enough time to turn around towards the door before doyeon pushed through it, a clothing basket filled to the brim in hand.
“i need you to put these away and then run to the liquor store and grab a few things for tonight,” she explained, quickly unloading your laundry since she needed the basket for another load. “i would ask someone else but they're all either cleaning or out grabbing other necessities – i tried to text gahyeon but she left me on read,” she rolled her eyes at the thought. gahyeon never had been good at responding.
pushing off of your chair, you began to tuck your clothes away in your dresser, nodding along to doyeon. “is there anything, in particular, you want me to get?”
doyeon collected the now-empty basket in her hands and started for the door, only stopping to look back at you with her ever so devious eyes and a half-assed smirk. “get the strongest stuff you know of – i want to be so shit-faced tonight that i forget my own name.”
“and two bottles of pink whitney!” the pink blur you had now come to know of as yuqi sped by your door, broom and dustpan in hand as she ran towards the living room area the floor below.
shaking your head at the pink-haired girl, you turned your attention to doyeon one last time, “how am i paying for all of this?” you raised a brow. “you can’t expect me to blow a hundred or more on booze for everyone?”
the smile and wink sent your way before the door was closed had answered your question.
you were going to be playing sugar mommy for the girls and the guests of kappa nu theta once again, unfortunately.
the liquor store was at least close to the university house lane – perhaps it was intentional with how many frats and sororities there were on the block beside it alone, or perhaps it was pure coincidence and a stroke of luck for the students. the sight of young adults flooding the aisles and walking out with their arms cradling the brown bags filled to the brim with tin and glass alike was astonishing even after a few years of seeing it.
this specific store always kept everything in stock – no matter how many people ventured in empty-handed and walked out with two or more bags filled to the brim with alcohol, they always kept their shelves stocked and neat. it was admirable for such an in-demand store to stay on top of things for once, especially during the highest revenue point of the year – spring break.
the phone in your back pocket continuously vibrated – the group chat no doubt requesting certain drinks for you to grab or for you to make one more side stop before returning to the house. without even looking, you knew that between the messages or requests and demands, there would be oddly angled selfies of the soon-to-be pledges – wonyoung and tsuki – the duo always managing to squirm their way into every conversation despite having no real connection to it.
they had a few more years until they could truly take part in the full sorority life.
a large portion of the cart you were pushing had already been filled to some extent – six-packs, tall cans, some of the larger glass bottles being contained within the larger part of the cart – all that was missing was the ever so highly requested pink whitney that yuqi could never go a party without.
knowing the layout of the store like the back of your own hand, you pushed the cart half-heartedly, not paying much attention to your surroundings like you normally did on these trips, which inconveniently, worked against you at this very moment for once.
your stomach hit the cart's handlebar before you could blink, the squeaky and loose tire skidded to an audible stop, and the sound of a male groaning in pain had snapped you back into reality quickly. when your eyes focused on the tall frame that had seemingly popped up out of nowhere, you tried your best to not let your eyes wander.
he was tall with broad shoulders, yet despite his size, he seemed soft and almost harmless in a sense.
that and he had the cutest pout on his puffed-up lips that you just wanted to kiss off–
“i’m so sorry, my friend pushed me–”
“did not!” a new male entered your sight. he was smaller in frame yet large in his own right, and had a more troublesome air to him – he seemed familiar, yet you couldn’t quite place why his face caused slight annoyance to bubble in your stomach. “don’t go around telling pretty girls that i push people,” the boy winked at you quickly, yet his gaze stayed trained on the other male for the most part.
the tall boy rolled his eyes lightly but turned his attention to you – his slight annoyance dropping into a more genuine and apologetic look.
“sorry about him – are you okay?”
while your abdomen region ached, there was no real point in making the poor boy worry for your health, so you simply nodded along. “yeah, i’m okay – are you?” you couldn’t help but laugh. “i was the one who hit you with a shopping cart after all.
his ears tinged pink in embarrassment as he tried to wave you off quickly. “ah n-no i’m perfectly fine – you didn’t hit me that hard,” you could tell the tall boy was trying to play off his own injury as well – much like you did a few moments prior.
“you yelped like a kicked puppy, you liar–”
“haechan!” the boy growled.
now that name you knew – now being able to pair the name to the face.
haechan. lee “haechan” donghyuck. one of the boys from delta zeta sigma, the fraternity just down the block from your sorority.
no wonder your stomach twisted earlier at the sight of his face – while his frat brothers were for the most part nice guys, he was one of the few classic frat boys on campus. he slept around, he got so shitfaced every weekend that he’s ended up passed out face first on almost every lawn on the block, and had never quite learned how to use his manners.
he was the living embodiment of a modern-day chad.
your phone rang in your pocket, and this time, you didn’t hesitate to grab it – it gave you a valid reason to get out of the situation. you offered the taller boy an apologetic smile and a quick nod goodbye before maneuvering your cart around him and haechan, making sure to give the two, more specifically the pouty-lipped boy enough space so as to not hit him as you had before.
grabbing the last items on your list with your phone between your cheek and your shoulder, you checked out, listening to doyeon list off everything that was done, was being done, or had to be done – the girl took on too much to handle by herself sometimes without even realizing it, resorting to ranting to you when things became overwhelming.
however, you couldn’t quite focus on her words.
instead, the tall boy and his pouty lips were all you could think about.
just what was his name?
and why was such a gentle giant in the company of the devious frat boy known as lee haechan?
