Here's a random story I never actually wrote and never will, but I did outline it and make these images, so today I'll share it just for fun 🙂
TXT are a band of pirates, led by Soobin (of course!), in search of a treasure no one truly believes exists. The Governor wants them wiped off the sea for good. Finding the treasure and riches will change their lives forever.
When Soobin secures a map to the treasure it's a risky business – he gambles everything, betting his life on the map's authenticity and the genuine existence of the treasure.
The men prepare for departure. Provisions are secured, and Hueningkai – the crew navigator – plans their path. Many months alone at sea await them.
Soobin is worried and for good reason. The quest puts them all in great debt, and his crew doesn't even know the risk he’s taken.
The crew are celebrating the retrieval of the crucial map, the adventure ahead, and make the most of one final night on dry land. They follow Soobin blindly, but are aware of the dangers they will face.
Soobin sneaks away from the celebrations. He's got someone he needs to see: the Governor's daughter who's expecting his child, and who would run away with him if only he had the means to support a family. For Soobin, the quest is personal.
In the early hours before the day they set sail, the men seek comfort in bed with their loved ones. Some may be whores, some may be lifetime partners. Either way, each pirate seeks someone's arms for intimacy. Who knows when they'll next see other humans again?
The mood is jolly when the ship departs. Hueningkai knows exactly where they need to go, and everyone is hopeful and cheerful.
Beomgyu is the agile, energetic member of the crew who spends most of his time high up in the masts, fixing and setting the sails, climbing like a fearless monkey. Danger or treasure, he's always first to know what’s ahead and alerts the others.
Taehyun, the crew's chef, has a deep-rooted interest in any and all creatures of the sea. He'll put the crew's lives on the line for some delicious sea meat. Luckily they all put up with his requests and side quests, because the feasts they're rewarded with are known across the seven seas.
Uh-oh, something's wrong. The crew starts to notice that Beomgyu spends an increasing amount of time below deck. He keeps excusing himself during meals, sneaking off and acting suspicious. Little do they know that he's snuck a woman onboard, a freeloader whom he'll naively swear he's in love with. In reality, she has nothing left for her at port, and is she taking advantage of Beomgyu's naive and jolly inclinations?
Yeonjun is the crew's most skilled swordsman. Soobin found him wounded and weak on a deserted island years ago. But he didn't see weakness in the man, only someone brave enough to fight.
He quickly became the captain's second in command, and spends most of his idle days at sea practicing his already impressive sword skills. When there's danger ahead Yeonjun is always there at the frontline.
“It's been weeks since I felt the warm embrace of a woman,” Hueningkai complains. Taehyun feels the same about men. At first, Soobin is furious when he catches his crew mates dealing with their needs below deck, but he understands and is quick to let it go.
The elusive treasure island is near! “Land ohoy!” Beomgyu calls out. Hueningkai is beyond himself with excitement, and Soobin is somewhat relieved.
They cast anchor and row ashore. On the beach, Yeonjun reunites with an old flame. He's been on the island before but never believed the tales until Soobin convinced him. She, however, never gave up. When they last parted ways they both hoped but didn't believe they would see each other again.
“I've searched the entirety of the Forbidden Woods,” she says. “Trust me, there's no treasure to be found here.”
Thanks to the map and his faith in Soobin, Yeonjun no longer believes that to be true.
The crew set off on their island expedition, through the Forbidden Woods and beyond. There's danger around every corner.
Hueningkai guides them. Yeonjun protects them. Taehyun feeds them. And Beomgyu is an excellent scout. Soobin is genuinely worried, fearing both the fate of his crew and that of his pregnant loved one back home.
They reach the innermost cave, guarded by a giant octopus. Together, they manage to defeat the frightening monster.
And there, in the depths of the hidden cave on the dangerous island, where no man or woman has ever dared or been able to go, they find the treasure they've sought. A whole cave full of silver and gold, enough for all of them to leave their pirate days behind for good.
Yeonjun tells his woman the good news. Finally, she can let her quest go and they can be together.
Beomgyu introduces the woman he's been hiding to the crew. They all knew. Together, they can settle down when they get home.
Back home, the crew are excited to share their stories with friends. But Hueningkai and Taehyun come to realize that they have no better friends than each other. They decide to spend their parts of the fortune on a humble house somewhere out of town. As lawful citizens the Governor can no longer touch them.
And what about captain Soobin? There's no way he'll say farewell to the sea. When they return to port it's time for the Governor's daughter to give birth. With a new family to care for, and a woman who despises her father, he sets sail one more time, never to be seen again.
According to legend he's happy and well. They all are, thanks to the treasure no one else would believe in.

After three years away from Jeju, You returns stronger than ever to compete in the island's biggest surfing competition. As you used to do , you beats your longtime rival, Terry, claiming first place while he's forced to settle for second for the first time in her life which makes it unbelievable for both .
To celebrate your victory, the sponsors host an exclusive yacht party for all the competitors. When the yacht reaches a private island, everyone heads ashore to continue the celebration everyone except Terry. Unable to stomach his defeat, he stays behind on the yacht, quietly drinking alone.
The moon casts silver ripples across the black water as the yacht gently rocks, anchored near a deserted private island. The distant sounds of music and laughter from shore feel worlds away.
Terry sits alone on the deck, nursing his third whiskey. His champion's jacket usually worn with pride hangs loosely over his shoulders like a burden. He stares at nothing, jaw tight with that bitter taste of defeat still fresh after three years.
A breeze carries petrichor from land when suddenly...
Footsteps stumble onto the deck behind him.
You appears in glittering sandals that sink into wet wood planks, your sundress slightly rumpled from dancing too much champagne-drunk joy tonight.
"Look who's sulking," you teases with that familiar smirk the one you always wore right before wiping him out in competitions.
But there's something different about it tonight... looser? Softer? Or maybe just tipsy?
Terry doesn't turn around. His grip tightens slightly around his glass, the ice clinking as he swirls it once before taking another slow sip.
The silence stretches thick with years of unspoken tension, every surf-off replaying between them in that quiet space. The ocean breeze carries your perfume (coconut sunscreen mixed with expensive champagne) right to him.
You giggled, actually giggled and sways closer until you're standing right behind his chair.
"poor little terry," you slurs playfully, "say sometimes I wandered why I hate you that much !"
Your fingers reach out to poke his shoulder... but misjudge the distance because you're tipsy and pokes nothing but air instead.
The night air is thick with tension as Terry abruptly stands, his chair scraping loudly against the deck. Without a wordwithout even glancing at you he walks past you toward the cabin stairs.
His movements are sharp, controlled anger in every step. The rivalry that's festered for years sits like a brick wall between them now more than ever.
You blinked, still giggly from champagne... until you notices him leaving.
"Terry? Wait-"
A misstep on wet wood sends you lurching sideways
" SPLASH. "
The icy seawater swallows you whole.
*No hesitation.
Terry whirls around just in time to see the disturbance where you'd been standing seconds ago. His blood runs cold before he even processes it fully.
He dives.
(Champion reflexes kick in; he hits the water running.) He crashes into waves without shoes or jacket slowing him down.
The saltwater stings his eyes as he plunges beneath the surface, dark waves swallowing him whole. He kicks hard stronger than any paddle he's ever done in competition.
Down below, you were flailing-disoriented from alcohol and sudden shock of cold water. You sundress billows like seaweed around you as you spins in slow motion.
Terry grabs her wrist with one hand while using the other to push upward through water resistance.
(He's always been faster.)
They break surface.
Gasping for air, Terry hauls a sputtering you toward the yacht ladder. His arms are shaking-not from exhaustion but adrenaline-and when they finally scramble onto deck... both are drenched head-to-toe.
A beat passes where neither speaks... just heavy breathing between them.
Terry's chest heaves as water drips from his hair, his shirt plastered to him. The moonlight catches the panic still etched into his face-the raw terror of almost losing her that he'll never admit out loud.
You coughs up seawater, shivering violently in your soaked dress. Your drunken giggles are long gone; now she just looks... small.
Then Terry explodes.
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!"
He roars it louder than any competition announcer ever has voice cracking with fury and something else beneath.
(Fear.) (Relief.) (Anger at himself for caring this much.)
He grabs both her shoulders not roughly but firmly
and shakes once:
"You could've DIED!"
Your teeth chatter from the cold, your lips tinged blue. You opened your mouth to retort maybe with some drunk sarcasm but then sees his face.
The real fear in Terry's eyes hits you like a tsunami wave.
Not anger. Not rivalry.
Fear.
(For me?)
A strange warmth blooms in your chest despite the freezing night air. Your bravado melts away completely.
Instead of snapping back... You did something unthinkable.
You reached up.
Your small, trembling hand rises still dripping wet and lands gently against Terry's cheek. The calloused warmth of his skin contrasts with your icy fingertips.
He freezes.
The entire world narrows to this single touch. No competitions. No rivalry speeches from coaches. Just your palm resting on his face like something sacred.
A drop of seawater slides down from your wrist to his jawline.
You didn't speak.
(you never could say the right words anyway.)
So you kissed him.
It's soft at first tentative, questioning a whisper of lips pressed together under the moonlight.
The kiss tastes like saltwater and champagne like every stupid fight they've ever had, every glance stolen across finish lines, every unspoken moment that led them here.
Terry doesn't move at first. His whole body is rigid with shock brain short-circuiting.
Is this happening? Is SHE kissing ME?
But then... instinct takes over.
His hands fly up to cradle your face.
And he kisses you back harder than a wave crashing against cliffs, desperate like he's been starving for this his entire life.
Without breaking their kiss, they stood up, still kissing, and he pushed you towards the yacht's cabin door and opened it without her entering, as he was busy kissing.
He then began pushing you towards a bed, and you collided with a chair. You were pushed against the bed, and he climbed on top of you .
The soft hum of the yacht engine blends with their breathing as Terry hovers over you , his lips still locked onto you hungry, desperate, like he's been starving for this moment and just now realized it.
Rain begins to patter against the cabin windows the calm before a summer storm.
The world outside feels distant. There's only them: soaked clothes sticking to skin, saltwater mixing with the taste of wine on your tongue.
Terry breaks the kiss just enough to trail feverish kisses down your jaw your neck each one slower than before but charged with emotion neither can name yet.
His hands tremble slightly as they slide under your damp dress .
He pauses.
Looks into your eyes.
Searching again not for permission exactly but for "certainty".
That this is real.
That you wants him too.
Not as rivals anymore...
But something deeper now that finally has a name neither dared speak aloud until tonight.
The silence stretches thick with want, fragile like the storm-lit air around them.
You didn't speak. You just lifts your hands slowly, brushing wet strands of hair from Terry's forehead.
Your touch is soft unexpectedly tender for someone who always wore a mask of confidence and rivalry.
Then you pulls him down again.
Not forcefully.
Gently.
Your lips meet his once more a kiss that says I need you, You've always been mine.
Terry melts into it this time, no hesitation left. The anger from earlier the frustration at losing the race is gone now, replaced by something warm spreading through his chest like sunlight breaking through clouds.
He kisses you deeper as his fingers finally peel off your soaked dress completely.
It drops to the floor with a quiet splat against the wooden cabin floor .
In one swift motion, Terry rips his own drenched shirt off buttons straining before popping loose entirely.
He doesn't care.
The fabric hits the floor beside hers, forgotten.
His chest rises and falls fast
not from exertion,
but from nerves he's never let anyone see before tonight.
All those years of competitive glares and sharp words? Gone. In this dimly lit cabin with rain tapping against the glass... he's just a man looking at a woman like she hung the stars.
He leans back down over your bare skin now pressing against yours and shivers slightly as their warmth meets through damp clothes still clinging to their legs.
The kiss deepens again hungrier this time but slower too, savoring each breath they share like it's sacred.
Terry trails kisses down your collarbone.
Each press of his lips is careful.
Reverent.
Like he's discovering something precious that was always meant to be his... but took too long to claim.
The yacht sways gently with the quiet roll of the waves, rocking them like a lullaby. The storm hasn't fully arrived just soft thunder in the distance, distant and dreamlike.
Your hands glide up Terry's bare back warm skin under your fingertips and you feels him shiver again. He inhales sharply at your touch, as if no one has ever touched him like this: not just wanting him... but seeing him.
You lifted your head slightly and kissed his shoulder a small peck that makes his breath hitch and then another on his collarbone before pressing a long kiss to where pulse meets neck.
He tilts into it instinctively.
A low sound escapes him half groan, half sigh the first real vulnerability he's shown all night.
His hands slide down to unclasp your wet bikini slowly... deliberately... asking without words.
The clasp clicks open soft, quiet and the shorts slide down your hips, kicked off without breaking their closeness. Terry's movements are deliberate now: careful, almost reverent.
He kisses you again deeplyvas his hands trail back up along your bare thighs. Every touch is electric through the cool cabin air still carrying traces of sea spray and rain.
You arches into him slightly as his lips move to your jawline again... then lower... brushing over the curve of a shoulder before dipping down to kiss just above where fabric meets skin on what's left of her damp tank top.
She gasps.
It's such a small sound but it hits Terry like lightning.
His heart pounds harder.
This isn't conquest. This isn't victory after losing a race.
This is you. Giving yourself to him for maybe the first time in any real way that matters.
And he wants it perfect.
The air thickens charged with breathless tension as Terry slowly slips his hand beneath the waistband of yours remaining damp clothes. His touch is tentative at first, uncertain how far she'll let him go.
But when he brushes against her heat and finds her already wet aroused by the kiss, by him he swallows hard. A pulse jumps in his throat.
Without asking outright (because right now words feel too heavy), he gently presses two fingers forward...
And you gasps!
Not just a soft sound this time a full moan escaped from your lips as they part slightly on an exhale.
It echoes in the small cabin.
Terry freezes for half a second. overwhelmed not just by how good you feels under his touch... but because you liked it.
You wanted this ,Wanted him.
Then instinct takes over.
Terry curls his fingers slightly experimenting and when you arches your back with another moan, softer this time but no less intense, he feels a surge of confidence.
He kisses you again harder now as he begins to move those two fingers slowly inside you. His thumb brushes over the sensitive bundle of nerves above them in gentle circles, testing how you reacts.
And oh-she reacts .
Your hips lift instinctively toward his hand. Your breath comes faster. One arm drapes around his neck for balance while the other grips the sheets beneath them.
The storm outside grows louder the rain falling heavier but all either hears is each other's breathing... and that quiet rhythm Terry's creating between them.
Each stroke is deliberate.
Each kiss deeper than the last.
He watches every flicker across your face like it's a map guiding him exactly where to go next.
The cabin is warm now filled with the heat of their bodies and shared breath. Rain streaks down the windows, blurring the world outside into soft shadows.
You moans grow bolder less restrained as Terry finds a rhythm that makes you tremble. Your fingers tighten in his hair, pulling slightly as pleasure spikes through her core.
He notices everything the way you toes curl against his leg... how you bite your lip to stifle another sound before failing... how you whispers something muffled against his shoulder that sounds like "yes."
It fuels him.
Encourages him.
Makes him want to give more to make this moment unforgettable for both of them.
Terry slows just slightly not stopping but deepening each movement with more pressure where it matters most, using every trick he's imagined over all those years watching you from afar during competitions and training sessions.
The kiss breaks again just for a breath and Terry rests his forehead against yours, both of them flushed and breathing heavily. The air between them is thick with emotion now, not just desire.
Terry shifts slightly, breaking the kiss just long enough to quickly unbutton his pants fumbling a little with cold fingers made clumsy by adrenaline and need. The zipper gives way, and he kicks them off without ceremony.
The bed creaks softly as he moves back over you, now fully bare beneath him except for scraps of damp fabric she's still wearing. He doesn't bother removing them all not yet he just presses close again, skin meeting skin from chest down.*
*This time when their lips meet it's different more urgent.*
And then Terry guides himself into you.
Finally, remove the remaining fabric from your skin.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Watching your face like it's the only thing that matters in this world.
The first slide is tight a gasp escapes both of them but neither pulls away. Instead... they sink deeper together.
Their bodies fit perfectly like they were always meant to move like this. Terry exhales sharply through his nose, eyes fluttering shut as he adjusts to the overwhelming sensation of being inside her for the first time.
You wraps your legs around his hips instinctively, pulling him deeper with a quiet moan that vibrates against his lips when they kiss again .
Terry starts moving slow at first: gentle rolls of his hips, testing how you takes it. Every breath is ragged now. The storm outside echoes their racing hearts but in you?
It's just heat and skin and whispered words between kisses.
"You okay?"
he murmurs against your mouth
"Tell me if I'm too much."
He cares.
Even now in passion he wants to make sure you're good.
Your lips parted, but no sound came out just shaky breaths and a dazed look in your eyes.
you were completely overwhelmed by the intimacy, by him, by how good he's fucking you so freaking good .
"am I hurting you y/n ?"
Terry saw it the way you struggled to form words and his expression softened for a second.
But he didn't stop moving.
Instead, he leaned down and kissed your cheek gently before whispering again firm but tender:
"Use your words !"
A command wrapped in care.
He wanted her. Not just the body beneath him but you yourself speaking, reacting... saying what you needed.
So when you finally gasped out a single word on an inhale
"Uh~~More..."
his heart slammed against his ribs.
The second she said it soft and breathless but so clear Terry obeyed.
He kissed you hard, deepening the kiss as his hips picked up their pace. The slow, careful rhythm gave way to something more urgent more needy because now he knew you wanted this too. Wanted him .
Each thrust became surer, bolder the bed rocking gently with them as rain drummed against the cabin windows like a private soundtrack.
Your hands slid down his back again, nails pressing lightly into skin not enough to hurt... just enough to ground yourself in the moment.
You Were drowning.
But not from falling into water again.
From how much you feel right now.
The world outside ceased to exist. No yacht. No competition. No past rivalry just this cabin, the sound of their breathing mixing with the storm's lullaby, and Terry moving inside you like he'd been waiting his whole life for this exact moment.
You finally found your voice again-not in full sentences yet, but in fragmented whispers between kisses:
"T~~Terry..."
Just his name.
Spoken like a prayer.
Like you were realizing who it was beneath your hands the person you'd hated (or so you thought), fought against... now loving with every part of herself.
You heard it.
And something cracked open inside him a dam breaking after years of suppressed feelings.
His next kiss wasn't hungry or desperate anymore...
It was devotional.
Terry's breathing turned ragged short, sharp pants escaping him with each quickening thrust. His muscles tensed, his body coiling tight as the pleasure built to a fever pitch.
He was close.
So close.
And for the first time since this began since they kissed on that yacht deck he lost control of his voice.
"Y/N..."he gasped,
"Oh god... Y/N..."
Her name spilled from his lips like a confession. Over and over again between panting breaths as if saying it would anchor him or save them both from drowning in sensation.
The rhythm became frantic but still careful the bed creaking louder now but Terry couldn't slow down even if he wanted to.
Every nerve screamed her name.
The cabin filled with the sounds of your moans, gasps, whispered names shouted like prayers.
You arched beneath Terry, your voice unrestrained now loud and raw with pleasure as she cried out:
"Terry! Oh please~~TERRY!"
Each scream matched his rhythm: wild, desperate, like this was the only thing that mattered in their lives anymore. No sponsors. No crowd. Just this
Terry's hips snapped forward with fierce urgency-every thrust deeper than the last as if his entire existence depended on giving you everything he had.
His biceps flexed; sweat glistened on his back.
He wasn't holding back.
Couldn't.
The peak was crashing over him and so was you.
Your legs squeezed tighter around him,
"I'm gonna , I'm gonna...!"
The tension snapped.
Your body tensed like a bowstring your back lifting off the bed as wave after wave of pleasure crashed through you.
Your scream was loud, unfiltered a cry of ecstasy that echoed in the small cabin and then you shattered , trembling under Terry as your climax tore through you.
And he felt it the way she clenched around him as if pulling him over with sheer force alone.
Terry gasped.
A broken sound.
His rhythm faltered for just a second before his own release slammed into him like lightning white-hot and overwhelming. He buried his face against your neck, biting down gently on your shoulder to muffle himself as he came hard inside you,
"Fuck... fuck... Y/N!"
The words were ragged, choked out between pants.
For once?
He wasn't thinking about rivalry or pride or anything else but this woman beneath him.
Terry collapsed beside you completely spent, chest heaving, sweat-slicked and exhausted. The adrenaline drained out of him all at once, leaving only warmth and a heavy drowsiness.
He turned his head slightly to look at you your face flushed, hair wild from their passion and you said it.
"I hate you."
The words hung in the air.
Flat.
But weirdly soft.
Not angry. Not bitter. Just... You. Like a reflex after years of rivalry but now it sounded more like an inside joke than real hatred.
Terry blinked slowly still catching his breath and then... he "laughed". A low chuckle that rumbled deep in his chest as realization hit him

Kai had left yesterday afternoon.
Soobin had walked Hazel in the evening. On his own.
You had heard the shuffling of their footsteps outside and had known immediately that he had walked her alone. He hadn't asked you, hadn't texted, hadn't knocked at your door.
That hurt more than you wanted it to.
Granted, this was partly, majorly, almost wholly, on you. But still.
You were supposed to be friends, right?
Deciding that the past fortnight had simply been too much, you threw your head back against the couch and groaned at the ceiling before finally pushing yourself up. You had had enough of this weird, horrible, increasingly painful situation between the two of you. You gathered your hair to put in a claw clip, and let your newly determined footsteps carry you...
Towards the kitchen.
Your solution to this whole unfavourable situation was flour. And sugar. And milk.
Of course.
By the time the brownies were out of the oven and the baking tray was sitting on the counter to cool, the smell of decadent chocolate had completely taken over the room. You stood there for a while, staring at the brownies as the warmth slowly left them, but your mind had already wandered somewhere else, drifting through everything that had happened since you had met Soobin.
You didn't realise how long you'd been standing there until the familiar skittering of Hazel's paws outside your apartment brought you back to reality.
Your head snapped towards the door.
You listened.
The shuffling of feet came first, followed by the faint rattle of keys and then the soft click of the lock turning. A moment later came the gentle thud of the door opening, and even though you weren't actually close enough to hear what came next, you could almost hear it in your head anyway:
"And we're back!" In that particular pitch in Soobin's voice that always made Hazel immediately turn to him, eyes wide and shiny.
You had lived this for almost two entire months. You could hear it as clearly as if it were actually happening in front of you.
Except it wasn't.
And that sucked.
You missed the way Soobin's dimple deepened whenever Hazel's paw met his palm, as if he was genuinely surprised that she had done it even though it was something she did every single time. You missed the way she would stand by the washroom afterwards, waiting for one of you to wash her paws while the other figured out which treat she was getting that day. You missed the little arguments over whether she deserved one or two.
You missed this mundane, domestic life with Soobin.
And you were to blame for not being able to live it anymore, only think about it.
So you sucked in a breath, transferred the freshly baked brownies into your nicest Tupperware, snapped the green lid into place and, before your brain could talk you out of it, let your legs carry you towards apartment 403.
Knock knock.
Silence.
And then-
Woof woof!
You heard the sudden shuffle of feet from inside.
"Hazel, come back here..."
More footsteps.
"Hazel, what's got you so excited, baby? Stand back now."
His voice became less muffled with every word, and you could practically picture him making his way towards the door, one hand probably already reaching for the handle.
Shit.
It was happening.
These were probably the last three seconds you had to overthink every possible way this could go once he opened the door.
You didn't how to deal with that information.
Your body felt cold and warm at the same time, your fingers tightening slightly around the container as you stared at the door.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
You took a deep breath.
It was okay.
It was just Soobin.
It was JUST a man. A person. A fellow human being. A homo sapien. Neanderthal. Ape.
Before you could cringe at yourself for launching into a completely unnecessary revision of human evolution, the door opened.
And there he was.
Choi Soobin stood in the doorway, one hand still halfway through fixing his hair as he looked up at you. His eyes widened slightly when he realised who was standing there, and for a second, neither of you said anything.
You took his appearance in.
Thank God for the evolution of man. What a truly marvellous thing.
Your eyes locked.
You remembered that you were supposed to speak.
Your mouth stayed open for a second before you finally managed, "Hey! I, uh—"
"WOOF WOOF!"
Thank God for Hazel too, actually.
Whatever awkwardness was making its way to settle between you disappeared almost immediately when she shoved herself between the two of you, apparently offended by the fact that you had greeted him before greeting her. How dare you not acknowledge the actual most important person in the house?
A smile made its way onto your face before you could stop it, your shoulders dropping as some of the tension finally left them. Soobin stepped aside to let Hazel push her head towards you, and you bent slightly, freeing your right hand from the green-lidded container long enough to scratch beneath her chin.
"Hello, my darling girl! How are you?"
Hazel leaned into your hand happily, tail going back and forth as you scratched the underside of her mouth for another second before standing straight again.
"She is very happy because she just..." Soobin finally spoke, glancing down at Hazel, who was now looking between the two of you as though she was personally responsible for getting the conversation moving. "Devoured a whole bowl of chicken."
He finished the sentence with a tone that very clearly suggested you should be impressed. Jealous, even.
That sentence had absolutely no business sounding that delightful to your ears.
You had missed his voice.
You pushed the thought down immediately, raising your eyebrows and giving a solemn nod.
Soobin reached for the back of his neck, fingers rubbing awkwardly against his skin. "Also, don't stand out here. I'm sorry. Please come in. I- yeah."
He moved further aside, and you finally stepped into the apartment.
"Hi," he said.
You looked up at him, your eyes discreetly tracing his face before you looked away.
"Hi," you muttered.
Silence.
You tightened your grip around the container before holding it out towards him.
"I, uh, made these."
"Oh. Thanks."
He took the container from you, staring at it for a second as though it required closer inspection before he finally looked back at you.
"What is it?"
"Brownies."
His entire face lit up.
The change was so immediate that you almost laughed. He thanked you again, sounding far more enthusiastic this time, and then, perhaps because he didn't know what else to say or perhaps because he was genuinely excited about the brownies, he tilted his head towards the dining table.
You followed.
And so, here you were, sitting across from him at the small wooden table where you had shared his "special" milkshake so many times over the last two months. It had always been a little less sweet than you liked, but it had hardly mattered when Soobin would sit across from you, watching eagerly with that already-smug expression that told you he was convinced he had just pulled off a MasterChef-level creation.
He opened the container and transferred a piece onto a plate, setting it carefully in the middle of the table between you.
You both reached for it with your spoons at the same time.
But before taking your own bite, you paused.
You wanted to see his reaction.
And, oh boy, was it worth it.
The moment the brownie hit his tongue, Soobin's eyes fell shut. His shoulders dropped as he leaned back into the chair while he got completely lost in the taste. You knew your brownies were quite loved by everyone who had tried them, but seeing Soobin, a whole six-foot giant, practically melt into a puddle of goo while relishing every bite always did something to you.
You weren't quick enough to tear your exceptionally fond eyes away from his face before his eyes opened again.
"It is so good," he breathed, and the sincerity in his voice earned him a grin from you and a small, playful bow before you finally took a bite yourself.
Oh, hell yeah.
You nodded approvingly at the taste, chewing slowly as you looked back up at him.
He was already on his second bite.
And somehow, despite everything, you couldn't stop yourself from smiling.
~~~
Soon after the last bite was had, reality seemed to settle back into the room.
The brownies were gone. There was no longer a plate between the two of you to stare at, no spoon to occupy your hands, no excuse to comment on how good they were or how Hazel had somehow managed to acquire chocolate crumbs on her nose despite not being allowed to have any.
There was just you.
And Soobin.
And the very uncomfortable silence that had been waiting patiently for the distraction to disappear.
Great.
You looked down at the empty plate, then at the table, then somewhere over his shoulder. Anywhere but him. Across from you, Soobin seemed to be having the exact same problem. His gaze flickered towards you every few seconds, only for him to immediately find something else infinitely more interesting to look at.
The clock you had been glancing at told you that only thirty seconds had passed but you were almost certain that it was somehow lying to you. This already had felt like a minimum of two minutes of just... silence. The yucky-sticky kind. The one that breathes down your neck and makes you suddenly aware of every tiny movement you make, every swallow, every stupid little breath you take.
Your right thumb had been gently rubbing back and forth on the wrist of your other hand in the hopes to soothe you. You looked down at it for a second and then, up. You met Soobin's eyes immediately and both of you searched for somewhere else to look.
Maybe you should just leav-
"Well, this is a lil..." Soobin let out an awkward chuckle, rubbing his palms over his thighs before looking anywhere but directly at you, "awkward."
You laughed quietly, though there wasn't much humour behind it, and bit the inside of your cheek. "Yeah..." You glanced at him, hesitated, and then gave another nervous little chuckle. "It feels so weird, being awkward with you."
"I know." His mouth pulled into a faint smile, and for a second the familiar expression made something in your chest loosen. "I'm not a fan."
"Same."
The word settled between you, and the silence returned almost immediately. You continued rubbing your thumb over your wrist, staring down at the table as you gathered enough courage to say what you had actually come here to say.
You swallowed.
"I'm sorry."
Soobin's lips parted and stayed so for two seconds before he eloquently responded with, "Huh?"
You finally looked at him.
"This. I mean..." You gestured vaguely between the two of you, "It's my fault." He just stared at you, so you continued- determined to let it all out before your brain decided to freeze. "I know I was weird after the party, and I am so, so, so sorry. I was just... not in my best headspace but that doesn't give me a free pass to pull stunts so I'm sorry." You looked at your hands and then at him again. "We're friends. I don't want to mess that up at all. Ever."
You heard Soobin take a deep breath.
Your voice became quieter, "I hate that we're not... us anymore. I'm sorry I pushed you away."
"Hey"
He slid his hand towards yours almost immediately. Catching himself aiming to hold you hand, he pulled back, choosing to just let the tips of his fingers rest over the top of yours.
"It isn't just your fault."
You looked at your hands.
"I just..." He pulled his hand back and rubbed the back of his neck, searching for the words. "I guess I got too... sensitive about something and let that come in between us as well."
His eyes flickered towards yours. He gave you a small, apologetic smile. "So, I'm sorry too."
You breathed out slowly.
"Okay. So, we're okay now?" you asked, voice still small but eyes hopefully looking up at him.
He gave you a small nod, "We're okay now."
You gave him a small smile. "Not messing up the friendship anymore."
His expression changed almost imperceptibly. His posture stiffened just the tiniest bit and something helpless flickered across his face before he looked down at the table.
You caught it nonethless.
"Yeah..." His voice came out softer than before.
Then, under his breath, "Friendship." almost defeatedly.
You didn't catch this clearly but you could tell something was off.
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing."
You narrowed your eyes.
"No, you mumbled something."
"It wasn't anything. Don't worry about it."
"Soobin."
He exhaled loudly and looked away, his shoulders dropping.
"We don't have to open some doors."
You stared at him. "What doors?"
"None."
"Soobin." This time, a little firmer.
"I'm just a little loser sometimes, okay?"He gave an forced little laugh, rubbing the back of his neck again. "It's embarrassing."
You watched him for a moment, trying to work out why he suddenly looked so uncomfortable. "Soobin, I thought we were way past that. Remember how we met?"
A reluctant smile appeared on his face. "Yeah, but this is just..."
He stopped himself.
You waited.
When he didn't continue, you tilted your head. "It's just what?"
"Nothing."
You stared at him.
"I just don't want to make things weird again."
"Good thing today is the day we fix all of that. So, come on, lay it out."
You waited.
He looked away again. "I don't want to ruin this."
"We're both in the repair mood today, it's okay."
Almost with suspiciously perfect timing, Hazel got up from her spot by the sofa and walked over to him, resting her head on his thigh, looking up at him with her puppy eyes. He wondered if she was in on this with you somehow.
Either way, he was a simple (weak) man who could not really stand the innocent eyes from one of his favourite girls, let alone both- at the same time- so he bit his lip as he pet her before turning to you.
He looked right into your eyes. "I like you, okay?"
What?
You didn't move. Not even a bit. Those four words had somehow managed to turn your very human form into, well, a whole staue.
He shifted in his chair a little, probably hoping for it to somehow make him disappear, and then words started spilling out his mouth.
"I know, what the hell? You take me a good friend, and I come here with a whole fucking bag or two full of feelings, and I know we just made up and I'm ruining this again. I just..." He dragged both hands over his face, his elbows coming to rest on his knees as he bent forward. "Oh God, fuck me."
You sat there completely bewildered, staring at the top of his head while your brain tried- and failed- to process the last thirty seconds because well, what?
"Soobin..."
"I'm sorry." He kept his face hidden behind his hands, his voice muffled slightly. "You can leave if you want. I just..."
"No, Soobin. Look at me."
He shook his head.
"Yn, I can't, okay? I'm too..."
You leaned forward and reached for his wrists, gently pulling his hands away from his face. He resisted for half a second and then gave in. The second his eyes found you right in front, they immediately moved somewhere over your shoulder. His shoulders were tense, his jaw tight, and there was something almost frightened in the way he avoided looking directly at you.
"You mean that?"
His eyes finally flickered towards yours and his throat bobbed.
"Yeah."
You shifted back slightly, deciding to look at the very compelling sight of your knees and make try to make sense of the words.
He likes you.
The fuck?
If he did, then why had he always said friends? You were friends, obviously, but... okay fine, that is not exactly the best counter-point. Next, and hey, the MAIN point, that night in the kitchen, when the two of you had stood there looking at each other in that quiet little pocket of time, there was nothing! You had practically almost handed him... well, yourself, and he had done absolutely nothing but stare at you.
So, what the hell did this man mean right now?
Your stomach twisted as another possibility crept into your head. Was he making fun of you? Was this some horrible prank? What kind of sick lie would this be?
But then you looked at him again.
He was sitting there with his shoulders hunched and his hands clasped between his knees, unable to even look you in the eye after admitting that he liked you. This was the same person who danced and sang to make sure Hazel didn't register too much discomfort while getting her nails trimmed at the groomers, who used to be half convinced that you were "psychologically manipulating" him by feeding him delicious food ocassionally, who sung sad songs as if he had gone through seven really bad divorces and who had fed you pizza with a smile on his face while you yelled at him for making a silly move on a stupid board game.
Soobin could be silly, but he wasn't cruel.
Which meant there had to be another explanation.
You couldn't think of it. So, you asked, your brows drawing together as you looked at him. "I thought we were friends. Where did liking me come from?"
"I know." He licked his lips before slowly lifting his eyes towards you. "I just... I don't know where it came from, Yn. But honestly, how could it not come?"
He gave a small, helpless gesture towards you.
"Have you seen yourself? Have you been in your company?"
You blinked at him.
"What?"
"I mean it." About two seconds later, he continued, though his voice grew quieter, almost embarrassed by his own honesty. "But we're friends, and I'm sorry for ruining what we were just rebuilding, but I can't help it, okay? I'm just sorry for making you uncomfortable and I'll apologise ten times for that, but I-"
"Stop." You searched his face for anything that would give you a hint of what was really going on, but you found only nervousness.
That made you confused. And also nervous.
"I don't know if I believe you, and if I do, then how." You admitted.
His chest rose and fell thrice before he finally responded. "Yn, why do you think I've kept quiet these days?"
A voice inside your head answered. Because I pushed you away a nd you realised you deserve better friends who don't act hot and cold?- Yeah, no you were not going to make your guess known.
"Because I realised that I like you, and very soon after that I realised that you do not."
You almost immediately tilted your head and furrowed your brows. What the hell is going on, really?
He shifted in his seat, rubbing his thumb against the side of his index finger and continued. "And I am a grown man. I should be okay with it, I know." He gave a small, humourless laugh. "But it stung, okay? So I was a little dry because I just... yeah. I am a loser, yeah."
The admission hung between you.
You directed a simple "How did you conclude I didn't like you back?" his way. You did kind of know but you had to be sure.
"You... You acted a little distant since the party, and I thought maybe I overstepped that night with... I don't know, laying in your lap or holding your hand and playing with our fingers or something," He looked up at you carefully and timidly, and finished, "and scared you off."
Riiiight. right right right right right.
You sucked in a long breath through your nose. Then you stood. Soobin's eyes immediately followed you as you took two steps away from the table.
"You have got to be kidding me."
You turned to find a very puzzled Soobin- and Hazel, who was not the happiest about her disturbed slumber yet quite nosyabout the scene unfolding nonetheless- stare at you blankly. So you explained, "Soobin, the reason I was... distant was because I thought you didn't like me back!"
His eyes widened, his mouth fell open. Had you not been in this certain situation, you would have joked about how he looked exactly like a cartoon character.
"What?"
"Yeah!" You exclaimed with an almost helpless annoyance.
You ran both hands through your hair, frustration and disbelief mixing until you didn't know whether you wanted to laugh or scream. "In the kitchen, we had a... moment, that night, right? I was moving closer to fucking kiss you, but you just kept staring at me and not moving at all!"
Soobin stared at you, dumbfounded. He knew what you were talking about but this was still new information to him.
"And I realised, oh, he doesn't like me back. We're friends. I'm probably just confusing him- or worse- weirding him out!"
Soobin's eyes fixed themselves to the spot on the wall across the room, behind your shoulder as the wheels finally started turning in his head. "No way." He whispered.
You folded your arms, still staring at him. "Very much yes way, mister."
Soobin took a moment to piece everything he had got to know yet together. It wasn't the clearest picture, he still was a little lost but there was a picture coming together for sure. He finally spoke, "But you kind of just shut me out completely! Like you... wanted to get rid of me."
"I know. And this is no justification but I was scared and embarrassed and just..." You looked around, "I just needed time, I guess."
Soobin looked down, his eyes visibly tracing the very much invisible dots on the floor, apparently connecting them in his head.
Finally, with the last dot, he looked up. "That's-"
"Yeah." You cut him off, right after the first word. You didn't need to hear the rest of the statement to know what he was about to say, you knew. So, you shook your head- the embarrassment beginning to creep back in now that you'd admitted everything out loud. "And I'm sorry. I should have, I don't know, handled it better, I'm sure, but it was the only way at the time, okay? I'm not exactly an expert."
Soobin gave you a small and slow understanding nod. That did make sense. Was it the best way to deal with it? No, and he knew you knew that too. But he couldn't really sit here and act all offended when he knows he probably would have done the same. Wait, he did do the same.
He let out a deep breath and pushed himself to his feet, the movement immediately catching Hazel's attention as she got up with him. She looked between the two of you, her eyes narrowing slightly as though she had been following the entire conversation and had some very strong opinions about the current state of affairs.
Apparently, whatever was going on was not to her liking, because after giving you both one last distinctly disapproving look, she turned around and trotted off towards the opposite end of the house, leaving the two of you to sort yourselves out. She would rather be somewhere quiet and get some proper beauty sleep.
Both of your eyes follow her until she disapeeared and then, find each other.
He bit his lip, debating whether he should go forward with his next few words and the, "I love when you put glitter on your eyes."
Huh?
You tilted your head in confusion. "Okay...?"
"That night, you had some on. I love when you do. It is so pretty." He paused to see the look on your face- a mixture of confusion and amusement- and he kicked himself for being a loser. It was anyway too late to back off now, so, he rubbed the back of his neck, letting out a quiet, embarrassed breath before trying to explain himself properly.
"I was staring at you because..." He hesitated, searching for the right words. "We'd been joking around earlier, and then you said my name with all the seriousness you could possibly gather while being, like, half a second away from laughing again, and that just-" He shook his head, a small, helpless smile pulling at his mouth. "You looked so pretty, and I don't know, I just... I love the way my name sounds when you say it."
His gaze dropped for a second, the tips of his ears warming as he tried to put the rest into words. "And that just got me, okay? I know I sound like a loser but everything else just kind of... disappeared. I wasn't thinking about ore even registering anything else. I was just looking at you."
His eyes stayed on yours this time, his voice quieter when he finally admitted, "You mesmerise me."
You just blinked.
Mesmerise? Oh fuck off
You brain had, very smartly, decided to ditch you in this moment of desperate need. Splended.
Finally, you managed to pull yourself together and in an... amused disbelief, you asked, "So you accidentally rejected me... because you were too 'mesmerised' by me?"
He gave you an apologetic little shrug.
"In my defence, I realised I liked you the next day, but yeah."
You scoffed, "That is no defence, dude."
His eyes widened, almost offended. "Don't 'dude' me. I just professed my feelings for you. I'm vulnerable!"
You pressed your lips together, trying not to smile.
"Right, sorry... dude."
He glared at you, without any real heat in it.
A chuckle escaped before you could stop it, and just like that, the air that had felt too thick to breathe in comfortably for so long seemed to loosen. Soobin let out a breath of his own at the sound, his shoulders dropping as the tension he'd been carrying finally began to melt away, and when he looked at you again, there was something almost relieved in his expression.
"So you're telling me this whole fucking fortnight-long ordeal was just because… we were stupid?" You were glad it was nothing too serious but at the same time, frustrated that it was something so... stupid.
The corners of lips tugged upwards as he finally took two steps towards you.
Him walking to you with that little smile and ears red did things to you that you couldn't exactly process. So, naturally, you said, "Fuck off. I'm so mad at you."
Offended, he reasoned, "I tried to talk to you! But you stayed so cold and avoidant" as he took another step towards you.
"Well, I know but still!"
Another step.
He scoffed. "You're annoying as well, okay? You made the thing worse."
"Again, I know."
One last step and he was here. Right in front of you. You could smell him after all this time again. It wasn't new- it was the same warm and woody scent that you'd smelled a hundred times before. But being this close to him after everything that had transpired in the past hour, knowing that he liked you too, had apparently made your brain decide it was the most fascinating scent known to mankind.
Oh boy!
Act normal, Yn. This is fine. He has been this close before. This is fine. So fine... Mmhm. He was. Sooo fine.
Shut up, Yn.
You looked up at him, to find him already looking at you. His gaze, soft. And then he hit you with a whispered, "It hurt."
Your eyes immediately dropped, guilt flashing across your face as your body instinctively started to pull back. You opened your mouth to apologise, but before you could get a single word out, Soobin's hand closed gently around your wrist.
His thumb brushed once over your wrist, and when you looked back up, there was that little smile again.
"So can you kiss it better?"
Your breath hitched. "What?"
"Kiss it better?" He repeated himself with a glint in his eyes.
You just stared at him, feeling the warmth creep into your neck, face, your entire body.
He took a step even closer, "Can you?" Then dropped his gaze to your lips, "Or can I?"
Maybe you leaned in first. Maybe he did. You couldn't tell later, and hontestly, neither of you seemed particularly interested in figuring it out as your lips finally met.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative in the way both of you were tentative about everything today, as though neither quite trusted that this was real yet. His hand came up instinctively to your waist, fingers settling there carefully, while yours found the front of his shirt as you held on to it, gently tugging him closer.
When you pulled back, his eyes remained closed for a second longer.
Then they opened.
He looked dazed.
You smiled.
"Hi."
He laughed under his breath, forehead falling lightly against yours.
"Hi."
"I hate that we spent half a month in pure agony over... nothing," You shook your head. You tried to sound casual but there was an undercurrent of frustration at yourself that couldn't quite hide from Soobin despite a great effort from your end.
"Shhh" He slid his hand into yours. "Don't waste time on the dark past."
You squeezed his hand. "Yeah?"
"Yeah." And then whispered, "Make up for lost time instead"
You couldn't help the little laugh that escaped you, the sound disappearing against his lips when you leaned in to kiss him again.
"Mhmm. Good idea."
Everyone is safe, the car is a lil hurt but that is much better than any of us being so, so I'll take it.
