big fan of goggles angst and i wish i could write it better lol

hmmmm most angst of him in my head comes from him feeling guilty for getting ppl into trouble bc of his naivety/clumsiness/general idiocy, like him feeling responsible for dragging everyone into the deepsea metro and staying awake at night bc of it

otherwise i dont think hes got a lot of mental trouble in his head bc he doesnt really think abt the past a lot, and hes very forgetful

god im seriously considering buying a switch 2 just for raiders but it makes me feel so dumb when the steam deck is available..... im at least gonna wait till it gets reviewed and all the playthroughs come out bc the idea of paying 500 great british pounds for one splatoon game makes me want to die from embarrassment unless its really really good

i wrote a lot of bullshit abt raiders bc i love dissecting stuff so read if u want to hear me rant abt nintendo game art styles

the splatoon racist undertones are back unfortunately with the treasure stealing stuff :( im at least not going to rant abt it until the game releases. like i know splatoon has never been intelligently written but i hope they at least acknowledge that deep cuts mission of plundering treasure from a different culture is pretty morally bad. i mean there is the hoping that bc its a single player theyll focus more on the story and actually think abt it for more than a minute. but like since rotm i have no faith in any of splatoons writing now lol

and the dumb premise of treasure hunting sucks bc raiders looks mechanically PERFECT. god the direct made the customisation look infinitely deep. weirdly enough it reminds me of eldin ring with the multiplayer setup being the same as the dark souls boss fight helper multiplayer stuff and the kinda rpg-esque customisation. im foaming at the mouth from the direct im going insane

also the environments we saw pissed me off bc they look like mario levels when one of splatoons greatest strengths is the worldbuilding and the sense of place and context and the intersection of all 3. and the environments we saw had none of those. and its made so much worse when the characters and weapons are so distinct and based in the world of splatoon. uuuurrrgghhh also some of the salmonids look like mario enemies bc they just look way too cartoony and exaggerated compared to earlier on. like a lot of the art design feels like 2 different art teams who have 2 different ideas of what theyre making. but tbh i think the distinct and really good environments weve gotten on the stages and the hub worlds in splat1, 2 and 3 were so good only bc they didnt have to make a lot of them and could take their time. bc hot damn they must take a lot of time theyre so detailed and no one appreciates them.

tbh im sick of every switch 2 game having super similar art styles and raiders looks like dk bananza in a lot of places. idk i just feel like splatoon 1 and octo expansion had the best art directions bc they were kinda dark and just a bit grosser and grungier and nintendos current releases all look so smooth, appealing and marketable and tbh its so incredibly boring and forgettable. sorry im ranting but man i want splatoon to be distinct just a bit bc i can see its getting pulled into the smooth and textureless mario art style like a black hole.

ok im only now watching the treehouse thing while writing this post and man im only getting more convinced of my theory that the art team was actually 2 teams who werent good at talking to eachother. i have a new worry that this game will be kinda short. and the mechanics idle animations are distractingly weird but im nitpicking now. man i hope this game succeeds so we get more splatoon stuff but maaaan theres not been a single switch 2 game that people didnt immediately forget. like does anyone remember kirby air riders. nintendo has not broken their pattern of releasing a successful and culturally important console and following it up with underdeveloped console that jeopardises the company then inexplicably releasing a good console again. nintendo makes it so easy to hate them lol
