Me Against The World
We won't let them change How we feel in our hearts We're not gonna let them control us We won't let them shove All their thoughts in our heads And we'll never be like them
(Simple Plan)
The first time Billy saw Steve Harrington perform took his breath away. The light on stage flashed from red to blue, reflecting on his charming smile and the sweat that was already collecting above the bow of his upper lip, while the room filled with the first chords of the song. The rather small but packed bar erupted into loud cheers, but Billy couldn't care less. Everything around him seemed to fade into the Background when the lead-singer finally pressed his lips to the microphone, purring a breathy “Hello” to the audience, then starting up the first line. The voice washing over the room was powerful but warm, a silken touch and a hint of cinnamon.
“Aren't they awesome?!”
Max's voice made him snap out of it and he had to duck his head to be able to hear her over the drumming music and screaming fans. But even the excited bouncing redhead beside him couldn't bring Billy to take his eyes away from the performance on stage.
Watching Harrington pour all his passion and love into his instrument, glowing with unseizable energy, made the hairs on his neck rise and his skin prickle with goose bumps. With every new breath, his lungs seemed to flood with the drumming of the bass, taking his breath away. Billy hadn't felt that alive in years.
Smuggling his Step-sister to a concert of her favorite band - under the noses of their parents - suddenly seemed worth it.
There is a Spotify-Playlist now!
Morse Home has a non-political Punk-Rock Style that centers around themes like finding your place in the world, not giving in to the pressure of “Being Normal” and finding love and fighting for it.
Being only a Duo in that genre is unconventional because a Band normally consists of a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. So they record both the Bass- and the guitar-performance beforehand and Steve can pick on stage which of the two instruments he wants to play while singing.
This scene is Part of the Fic Morse Home on Ao3. Happening between the prologue and the first chapter.
