Result: John AU: Vampire!John

John didn’t get like that very often anymore since he’d changed. Often found himself restless, especially as the night fell. Some odd energy from the darkness and the moon and the new power - or, really, the change itself. Something kept him on his feet, couldn’t sit still or focus on just one thing for hours until the sun rose and he slept often.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t go out in the sun like stereotypical vampires of movies and shows. It was just that being up during the day seemed to just exhaust him after his constant energy during the night. But today he opted to stay awake. He seemed a bit dazed throughout the day, but he didn’t let it stop him.

Even as Alexander sat down to read, write, relax, do what he would, John sat right beside him on the couch, curled up against him with his head on his shoulder, arms wound loosely around him. He looked tired after yet another long night of no sleep, of laying there curled up with Alex until sunrise. He didn’t want to fall asleep though. He wanted to stay awake with Alex. He wanted to spend the day with his boyfriend rather than the meager hours they usually got to spend together due to John’s newly odd internal time and Alex’s normal time. So instead of falling asleep, John shifted just that much closer, head against his shoulder as his arms softly squeezed him. “What’re you writing?” He asked quietly, burying his face against the back of Alex’s shoulder a little as he peered over his shoulder at the paper.

"Waking up" wasn't a new phenomenon. It happened to millions of people, and there were special counselors that assisted those who woke up to memories of whatever traumas they went through in their previous lives. Agencies helped people reconnect with loved ones, and more.

So here Alex was, waiting in an office to talk to whatever counselor was assigned to his case. Killed by his friend, ruined marriage, dead best friend and...other things that the guy was to him. He wanted to get over all of the people he'd lost and his death. Connecting with any of them was a nightmare to him. Except for his children. Was it bad that he didn't care about finding anyone but his children?

And John. Seeing him just one more time, hearing his voice, that would be enough.

But that was a bad idea. It lead to other problems from his last life and he couldn't go through any of that again.

Alexander had been gone a while. John didn’t know where he went, or what really happened, not until he’d found that note that explained everything. But when he showed up finally a week later after spending so much time making sure he had what he needed and debating in a panic whether or not to tell someone else, someone of higher authority, he didn’t have what they’d asked for - he had a gun and a grudge.

For once, he found himself glad his father and he did typical things when he was young like hunting. It helped his aiming, the shooting range he went to in secret a few times to practice, the license he got, all to have a pistol to hide in his room for safety in his apartment due to being overly cautious. He’d been so grateful he never had to use it until now.

And oh, he hated that he had to use it. A few strategic shots when no one knew he was there, breath held as the real fight broke out. He’d gotten hit a few times, a few punches when he didn’t pay enough attention to his real surroundings when he was trying to shoot one of them, had to wrestle his gun back once, but the bruises were the furthest thing on his mind as he dropped the gun when they were taken care of, dropped to his knees in front of that chair and quickly cut those ropes, breath stuck in his throat as his hands ever so gently cradled Alexander’s face, biting into his lip as he gently brushed his hair from his face, felt his forehead, stroked his thumb over his cheek. “Alex...?”

John had been angry, that he knew. Alex talking and talking, running his mouth when he shouldn’t. Arguments arose like always. Two people as temperamental as them in an argument - amazing how it took a turn like this. Something or another, scolding, minor insults. Oh boohoo, John Laurens son of a rich senator has problems. Gay boy in a conservative state in an expensive house with conservative parents.

It was something like that. Something that pushed John to the edge. Something that made John see red, slam Alex into the wall, hands pressing into his shoulders to keep him there, scowling, a dark look in his eyes. Stormy, pained, guard and inner walls up as high as they could go suddenly. Anything to shut Alex up and make him stop running his mouth, right?

John sighed softly, leaning into the hand slightly as his eyes closed. It was so relaxing, to just be sat there on the couch with someone dear to him, fingers running through his hair. John wouldn’t openly admit just how calming and relaxing the gesture was, but he was sure his wolf tail thumping on the couch gave him away probably.

To say he was surprised at the interruption would be an understatement. Sure, it was just the human body, but it was his human body and he didn't know what to do with the interruption. His hands jerked down to cover himself; he didn't exactly use bubbles when he bathed. "Uh...hi."
