Gambler Ford is a fairly skilled gambler. In contrast to his brother who is quite calm and careful in doing things even though they both have the same interests.Besides that, he is a quite dedicated paranormal researcher.The real problem is that he is obsessed with money even though he also hates having a lot of it, because money is the main reason his twin brother was kicked out of their home in New Jersey. He ended up focusing too much on his research to develop things that no one else would ever think of,so he could get a fair price for the work he did. That's what finally made him fall for Fredbill's manipulation and trick.
Backstory
BEFORE THE PORTAL/MEETING BILL:
Stanford was born in New Jersey, dimension 465, still with his 6-fingered hands. and his twin brother Stanley. Ford is a fairly active and curious child.Even so, he relies on Stanley for the decisions he will make. Because even though he is quite active, he is very lacking in terms of communication between human and Ways of being in society.
Everything is pretty normal for them, although they do run into problems sometimes. But like other versions of them, things get out of hand at the science fair. Stanley accidentally broke ford's Science experiments. He basically tried to tell Ford but it was too late.
Ford honestly didn't care much about it, he just thought it was an opportunity worth trying. So even though he felt betrayed by Stanley, Ford still appreciated him for admitting his mistake(Because it's ood for Stanley to do that). But it was clear their father didn't think so. And eventually, he kicked Stanley out. Ford tried, at least that's what he thought, but it only made things worse. It was a major blow to Ford's personality. He eventually became quite cautious and reserved.
After that incident, Ford's obsession with money and his hatred for it began. Because it might be the only thing that could bring Stanley home, he continued studying and After he was finally accepted into Backupsmore university he decided to leave his family.He never even picks up the call from Sherman, his older brother.
His gambling habit basically developed while he was at backupsmore, besides that there was another habit, calling Stanley.He actually accidentally found him number in an advertisement.And after that he kept calling Stanley.And it wasn't a normal phone call like people thinking..because Ford never spoke when he called Stanley. or at least Stanley clearly didn't think it was a normal call. It creeped Stanley out to change his number multiple times. Unfortunately Ford didn't realize that he was acting like weirdo and decided to call him again,And quickly found Stanley's new number. Ford's roommate, Fiddleford obviously thought Ford was weird too, but didn't want to tell Ford about it.
All of these habits obviously continue, even when he in gravity falls.

With his wishes and dreams and his desire to study the oddity because he thought it would suit him ,he decided to build a research lab and also a house for himself and maybe Stanley later. He chose the sleepy hamlet of Gravity Falls, Oregon,Believe it is a place that contains many supernatural thing.
Once there, Ford was clearly fascinated by the sights at Gravity Falls. Although he didn't interact much with the locals, he did get to know a few of them. He also enjoys interacting with the supernatural creatures there. Think this is the place for him.
The only thing missing is that Stanley is not here.,
He eventually worked hard again to get his research recognized and finally had enough money to shut their father's mouth.
Writing journals has basically become his hobby besides calling Stan, He still can't say anything when he call him but hearing his voice is enough for Ford.
Talking and studying the creatures in gravity falls also entertained him enough and made him learn many things including magic and other things.
Ford's first meeting with Bill was initially considered by Ford as an answer to his questions, Making Ford become quite distracted and pursue his new goal.make a gate between dimensions... A portal.
