Dani had never spoken on a public panel regarding their gender. It had been an... interesting experience, though not an unpleasant one. Pointers were easy enough to give, and questions regarding how they managed their identification were answered with rare discomfort. It was delving into the intimate details of how they developed their identity that had unexpectedly struck them. They handled such explanations with habitual grace, of course. Any form of visible stagefright in public simply wouldn’t do. But, as harmless and beloved as the old memories were meant to be, they were irrevocably intertwined with a wistfulness that the professor couldn’t shake.
Which was precisely why, shortly following the exhibition, they were settled at the Stonefruit’s bar with a glass of neat whiskey in their hand. Not their usual poison, but if they couldn’t beat the memories, they might as well embrace them. The glass had nearly touched their lips for another sip when the spotted one of the inn’s owners passing by. The beverage was lowered and stashed on the edge of the counter before Dani strolled up to the fairy. “Freddie!” Their mood had instantly found improvement, as their charming smile testified. The petite figure stretched up on their toes to press a faint kiss of greeting to either side of his face. “Thank you so much for hosting. This has been absolutely brilliant. How are you, though? Not tiring from all the excitement, I hope.”
