mourning doves and pigeons (rock doves) are both members of the family Columbidae (along with 300+ other kinds of dove/pigeon and also the dodo), but their genus and species are different. so they are related but not super super close. like cousins instead of siblings. this has been: unsolicited bird intel
this slightly contradicts the other ask I just answered. net zero information website
in honour of all the emotions I am sure we are all feeling when we heard that our favourite danish goalie was heading to Carolina I whipped up a lil something to fuel our angst. I hope you enjoy and the best of luck to this big beautiful human.
WARNINGS: none x (maybe angst and the fact I didn’t really spell check this sorry)
Frederik Andersen was the man of your dreams, actually your entire life was something that you had dreamed, planned and worked so hard to achieve for many many years. Growing up all you wanted to be was a Doctor and spend your life helping people and after a school trip to Toronto, you knew that one day you wanted to be living in this amazing city. So now at the tender age of 27 you had achieved all of your wildest dreams and the cherry on top - Freddie. Beautiful, caring, passionate Freddie. You had met him through Auston… well actually your old roommate who had been hooking up with Auston at the time, but he liked to claim all of the credit for setting the pair of you up. 2 years ago Auston had thrown a party at his apartment celebrating the start of the new hockey season, your roommate had been invited and she had asked to bring you along and boy weren’t you thankful that she did. Not long after arriving to the party, your so called friend had ditched you in the kitchen of the very large very crowded apartment, that was when Freddie had swooped in and rescued you, literally. A few of the rookies were wrestling there way towards the assortment of alcoholic beverages that happened to be right behind you, Freddie had managed to pull you out of their war path and into his broad chest and honestly once you were held tightly up against his chest you never wanted to leave, so the rest was history.
For the past 18 months you have loved your relationship with Freddie, not that there hadn’t been hiccups, like when the pandemic had first began and the NHL had suspended play, you and Freddie had only been dating a few months and neither one of you were ready to be living together. So he headed to Arizona with Auston and you stayed behind in Toronto to work because as a Doctor you were a very essential worker. It was hard, trying to maintain your relationship via long distance but as Freddie had said
“Its just like a really long road trip Skat, we will make this work.”
And you did. By the time Freddie had returned it was like no time had pasted and you picked up right were you left off. So a year later when the 2020/21 season had tragically ended and he had asked you to spend the summer with him in Arizona you didn’t hesitate to say yes and asked for a few weeks leave from work. The last few weeks were amazing, days spent lounging around Austons pool, nights spent tangled in-between the sheets. You honestly never wanted to go home but that was until the picture perfect little bubble you were living in burst.
Freddie and Auston had been inside all morning in Austons office. You instead decided to lay out by Austons pool soaking in the early morning sun before the afternoon heat kicked in.
Freddie and Auston came walking out.
“Hey boys I made breakfast it’s in the kitchen.”You said as Auston sat down on the sun lounge beside you.
“Thanks YN.” Auston nodded looking at Fred out of the corner of his eye.
“Is everything okay.” Looking between the two large men you could see there was some tension building.
“Can you come inside with me.” Freddie asked shifting awkwardly on his feet
“Sure.”
In the two years you had known him, you had never known Freddie to be awkward, shy.. yes but not awkward not with you. You stood up of the lounger and threw the large oversized t-shirt, that belonged to Freddie, over your head and walked into the house a head of Freddie.
“Is everything okay, baby.” You say stopping at the fridge in the kitchen grabbing out a bottle of water silently offering one too Freddie.
“No I am fine.” He paused.
“I just got off the phone with my agent, the Canes have made an offer.”
“Canes, as in Carolina.” You ask as you take a sip of water.
“It’s two years and around what I was asking for, so I took it.” Freddie looked down at the ground
“You took it?” You ask
“Yes.” He responds
“Are you telling me you got traded?” A range of emotions start to course through your body.
“Yes.” He responds with that one word again
“To Carolina?” Shock turning into frustation
“Yes.” That one little word flying from his lips. Again.
“Can you say anything other than yes?” Your frustration turning into anger.
“YN-“ Fred began to say
“I don’t understand three days ago you were telling me you were still talking to the Leafs, what the hell happened.” Your anger still simmering but now tears were starting to prick at the back of your eyes.
“We couldn’t come to terms, they weren’t offering enough and as of midnight Free Agency started so the Canes made an offer.” Freddie explained
“And you’re only telling me this now.” Tears now slowly rolling down your cheeks.
“You knew there was a chance that I could be traded, it’s-“ Fred said taking a step closer to you reaching out for your hands.
“The nature of the game, I know but not once in the last week have you hinted to me that you were leaving Toronto.” You cross your arms against your chest and out of his reach, a sad look coming across his face when you pulled away from him.
“I was trying, we were trying but they just weren’t offering enough.” he said taking another step closer trying to closer the physical distance between you both as the emotional distance began to expand.
“Whose we?” You snapped.
“My agent, myself, Auston-“
“Auston, so Auston knew but I didn’t.” Your anger evident in every syllable.
“It’s not like that, he gets what it’s like, he’s in the league.” His explanation falling on deaf ears.
“Every time I mentioned the traded deadline or rumours I could tell it upset you, so I thought I would let you know when I knew something definite.”
You shake your head turning your back on him.
“So this is definite.”
“Yes, they’ll announce it later today.” He says.
“Right.” You say turning back to face him, but instead of saying anything or looking at him you walk back towards the pool outside.
“Where are you going.” He grabs your arm to stop you from walking away from him.
“Why should I tell you! It’s not like we tell each other things in this relationship.” You snap.
“YN please, I know this was sudden, it was sudden for me. But I have a real shot here to go and start fresh and really find my game again, away from the media in Toronto and the crazy fans, I can find my love for the game again.” He explains. For the first time since he had told you the news you realised what this actual meant to him, not just you.
You had known how Freddie had struggled in Toronto. How could you not. you were there through it all, the highs of him winning and you were defiantly there through the lows of him being blamed for all the teams misfortunes. You were there the nights that he would come home not saying a word just collapsing on your couch or his bed out of sheer exhaustion and pain as he tried to play through injury because ‘there was no one else they trusted in the net’. You were there when you would wake in the middle of the night and feel his large frame shake as he cried himself to sleep, plagued with guilt. You read all of the comments just as you knew he had. You heard what people in the city had to say. You also knew looking at him that for the first time in a long time there was a glimmer of hope in his eyes and in that moment your anger faded.
“I am happy for you Freddie, I am, I am so so proud of you.” You wrap your arms around his waist pulling closer to you.
“I know and I am sorry for springing this on you, I should have spoken to you sooner about it.” His arms tighten around him as he kisses you on the top of your head.
“I just need a second too process this okay.” You mumble against his chest.
“Take all the time you need.” He squeezes you tighter for a second before releasing you.
You spent the rest of the day keeping to yourself, lounging by the pool, taking Felix on a walk before the Arizona heat became too much. Freddie gave you the time you had asked for not knowing the thoughts racing through your mind and you knew you needed to talk to him about everything you were feeling, all your worries, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to face him because at the end of the day your job, your life was in Toronto and as of midnight on Wednesday July 28th, Freddie’s was in North Carolina.
Austons family came over around dinner time and Ema had offered to cook for everyone. You were glad for his families presence as it gave you more time before your dreaded conversation with Freddie.
“So Freddie, North Carolina huh, excited?.” Brian asked as you were sat around the dinner table.
“Yeah, Jake gave me a call and told me a bit about the team so that eased the nerves, it sounds like a great place for us.” He said taking a sip from his wine.
You were shocked. Not because he had spoken to Jake, but that Freddie had said Us.
“Have you spoken to a real estate agent yet?” Ema asks always the concerned mother.
“Jakes given me a number of an agent and I called my agent in Toronto, I am not sure if Y/N has called hers yet.” You feel all the eyes turn to look at you as you peer back at them above the rim you your glass.
“Umm… well I.. I hadn’t thought about it.” You mumble placing the glass back on the table.
“Well you better get on to it, unless you’re planning on staying.” Brian laughs as if it the most absurd suggestion. If only he knew. You laugh trying to defuse the situation.
Everyone went back to the conversation, but you didn’t participate you just pushed your food around your plate and sipped on your wine until the end of dinner when you excused yourself and went back to yours and Freddies room.
Once you are in your room with the door closed and sat down on the edge of your bed with your head in your hands, you feel all the emotions of the day rising up in your chest. Freddie was moving to North Carolina and he was expecting you to move with him. You loved him, more than you had loved anyone in your entire life. But you loved your job, your friends, your apartment, basically everything to do with your life in Toronto. So how were you supposed to choose between the man you loved and the life you loved… How exactly were you supposed to do that. If you moved to North Carolina, like Freddie was so certain you were doing, what life would you have? You would no longer have your dream job, you weren’t even entirely sure you would have a job. You wouldn’t have your own apartment, your own space would now be merged with his, were you ready for that. But if you stayed you wouldn’t have him.
“You don’t want to go to North Carolina, do you?” Freddie voice startles you from he doorway. You look up as he steps further into the room closing the door behind him.
“Why does it matter what I want, you’ve already made my decision for me.” You snap. You know he doesn’t deserve it but right now you didn’t care.
“Y/N look at me.” He says kneeling down infront of you. You look up and meet his eyes.
“Talk to me.” And with those three words the floodgates open.
“24 hours ago I didn’t even know you were being traded and now I am just expected to just go with you?” You stand up and for once in your relationship you are the one who towers over Freddie. He opens his mouth to respond.
“I am not finished.” He shuts his mouth and lets you continue.
“My life is in Toronto, my job, my friends… my home is in Toronto… Hell my home IS Toronto. And now I am expected to leave.” The tears you were trying so desperately to hold back were now freely flowing down your face.
“I -“ Freddie tried to say standing to his feet.
“I am NOT finished.” You growl at him, shock plastered across his face.
“I have always been independent even as a kid, I think thats why I put off living with you for so long and the thought of moving to a completely different country where I don’t have a job, where I don’t know anyone except for you is absolutely terrifying. And I am sorry I know how amazing this opportunity is for you but I don’t know.. I don’t think.. I just can’t do it.”Not able to look Freddie in the eyes as you finally admit what had been swimming around in your mind all day.
Silence. Silence was the only response you got as you stood there sobbing, he didn't try to argue with you or fight you because deep down Freddie could never be the guy that asked you to give up everything for him, it would kill you and even though you would never openly say it but he knew unless it was your decision you would resent him for making you leave. When you finally plucked up the courage to look Freddie in the eyes you could see tears falling from his eyes and rolling down his cheek as he did nothing to stop them.
“I am so sorry Freddie.” You choke out.
“No I am the one who should be sorry.” He runs a hand through his red locks. The same red locks you would run your fingers through when you were trying to comfort him, but right now in this moment in time there was no comfort you could offer him.
“Freddie-“ you take a step towards him.
“No you got your chance to speak now it’s mine.” He cuts you off, taking a deep breath before continuing.
“I am sorry I expected that you would move with me. I am sorry that you feel like you have to choose between your home and me, but at the end of the day Y/N you are MY home.” At his confession you’re beginning to sob louder wanting nothing more than to wrap your arms around him and for the pain you were inflicting on each other to end.
“I think it’s best if you leave. Ill book you a flight home-“
“I can book my own flight Freddie.” You say
“- and Auston will drive you to the airport.” He ignores you and continues.
“Ill also stay in another room until you’re gone.” He says walking across the room to the dresser by the window and grabbing a few items out before heading to the bathroom attached to your room.
“Freddie you don’t have to.” You turn to follow him.
“Y/N please.” He pleads, his eyes full of hurt and pain.
You leave Freddie to gather a few items and you return to sit on the bed watching him prepare to walk out of your life. Once he’s collected his toothbrush and a few other products from the bathroom he walks back into the bedroom and walks towards the door and you notice him struggling to get the door with his arms full of his belongings. You quickly stand and cross the room opening up the door for him, he gives you a small sad smile as he walks past you and out into the hall. As you were about to close the door Freddie places his foot in the way and you open the door back up slightly.
“I sorry Skat.” He sighs a fresh tear rolls down his cheek.
“I am sorry too Fred.” You reach up and wipe the tear from under cheek. You almost half expect him to pull away from you but he doesn’t. He leans into your hand.
“Goodbye Y/N.”
And with that Frederik Andersen walks out of your life.
I knew that figs had wasps in them but it was not until you lost your mind about it that I realized that that means that figs have insects in them and I've been having a crisis about figs and their kosher-ness ever since (fruit with insects in it isn't kosher... figs are mentioned I think five times in the Torah...) so I'm about to roll up to Torah study like HEY RABBI PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE DEAL WITH FIGS IS AND WHY
plant: *regularly kills and engulfs a specific kind of insect during the course of pollination*
humans, constantly distraught by complex ethical questions, completely caught off guard and shocked: is it okay to eat this in specific religious and moral adherences????? do we endorse this kind of behavior??? *specifically calls it out in age old religious texts, debates it to this day*
how many times have smh tried to convince dex to engage in a game of head hockey inspired by the Headless Hunt in chamber of secrets
Part of the Monster Haus AU. Mostly featuring Dullahan Dex. 1. You requested this like a year ago so I’m sorry I don’t do things on time. 2. I’m the only one who thinks I’m funny but that’s okay.
It hadn’t happened on purpose, not really. Not if anyone asked anyway. Because it wasn’t like no one had thought about it. It was impossible not to really, what with the way Dex’s head had gone flying off of his body and straight into his own breakfast that first time. The nature of having so many different species on one team usually lended itself to strange thoughts and half-baked terrible ideas, but the exact moment of execution of such ideas was often a delicate balance to figure out.
In the end, it was Whiskey’s fault. He would deny it had been on purpose, but no one would ever be quite sure.
Tango had passed him the puck in a particularly brutal practice match, a hard shot that Whiskey had caught on his stick and lobbed hard in Dex’s direction. But he misjudged his shot and Dex didn’t move fast enough and not even the thick brace he kept on his throat was strong enough to keep the delicate skin and bone of his neck from tearing itself free when the puck made contact with his cheek.
Dex’s head hit the ice with a hard slap that seemed to reverberate throughout the rafters of Faber, echoing over the sound of skates faltering on ice as everyone all at once came to a grinding halt.
Dex’s body faltered on its skates, arms flailing as he tried to stay upright with his lack of a head. On the ground, mouth pressed roughly into the ice, his head groaned. “Fucking shit, Whiskey.”
The only sound for a solid five seconds was Dex’s skates cutting through the ice as he wobbled his way back to his own head in embarrassment, his head swearing the entire time.
The realm of forbidden possibility that every single one of them had previously considered but not dared to name stretched out in front of them.
Holster moved first.
“TANGO!” Was the only shouted warning he gave before his stick collided hard with the back of Dex’s head, sending it sailing in Tango’s direction. The stick snapped, splintering under the excessive weight of Dex’s head combined with the strength of the hit.
Tango moved immediately, catching Dex’s head with his own stick and spinning into the momentum to send it to Ollie.
“FUCK ALL OF YOU GUYS!” Dex shouted from the ice as his body attempted to intervene by taking a swing with his stick at Holster, which missed its mark drastically but succeeded in catching Wicks hard in the jaw.
In the crease Chowder braced himself, shifting on his skates as he watched with sharp eyes.
“OLLIE I’M OPEN!”
“NURSEY I SWEAR TO GOD I’LL KILL YOU HARDER THAN EVERYONE ELSE.”
Despite the threats, no matter how real everyone was fairly certain they were, Ollie slid Dex’s head to Nursey. He moved quickly and with purpose despite the fact that no one, with the exception of Dex’s uncoordinated headless body, was trying to interfere.
Nursey turned on his skate, stick out in front of him and shoulders down as he barreled towards the goal. His eyes locked with Chowder’s through his mask as Nursey raised his stick, and slapped his best friend’s head straight at his other best friend’s shoulder.
Chowder, to the surprise of just about everyone, threw himself to the right at the last second, allowing Dex’s head to sail past him and hit the back of the net.
The sound of the buzzer going off was almost drowned out by the cheers and shouts of delight from the rest of the team.
“CHOWDER!” Dex’s snarled, glaring up at him from his vantage point with the one eye he could see him out of. “You didn’t even fucking try!”
“I wanted to hear the buzzer go off when your head hit the net!” Chowder told him honestly, if not a bit sheepishly. “And I thought the net might be a softer landing.”
“It was not, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“This was the greatest moment of my life, thanks, Dex,” Holster shouted from the blue line, looking dangerously close to simply falling over in his own joy. “Practice is over, everyone did great.”
“Fuck all of you,” Dex hissed again. His body shoved Chowder out of the way as he reached into the goal to retrieve his battered head.
“You okay?” Ransom called from the neutral zone.
“I’m fine!” Dex snapped, his face a truly brilliant shade of red as he dusted the ice shavings from his hair.
“Yeah, I’d say he’s looking pretty…Chill.”
Without warning and without any forethought at all for the consequences, Dex suddenly and violently lobbed his head with all his strength straight at Nursey’s chest.
The blow sent his sprawling, hitting the ground hard, but not hard enough to deter him from the sudden possibility that had been reopened to him.
“ROUND TWO!” Nursey screamed as he scrambled to right himself, making it to his feet just in time to smack Dex’s sputtering head with his stick again and chase after it.
“HOLSTER SAID PRACTICE WAS OVER!”
“NEVER MIND WE’RE STILL GOING!”
“Sorry Dex!” Bitty yelled as he sped past his flailing body. “I didn’t get a turn last time!”
@freddieandersen replied to your post “What is seltzer?”
why does everyone I love have bad opinions about seltzer :(
@freddieandersen replied to your post “What is seltzer?”
IT'S BAD WATER FULL OF BITTERNESS AND THE OUCHY KIND OF BUBBLES
yeah but this way there’s more seltzer for me and less seltzer for you
re: why i like seltzer, it’s 100% bc i was raised on it. i think i probably have consumed more seltzer in my lifetime than actual plain water. blame my mom for my (excellent) seltzer opinions
also if you don’t like seltzer, do you not like soda, either, or is soda acceptable? i’m kind of iffy on soda, tbh
