James Vowles does not want to train up a driver for a rival team

There is only one reason I can imagine James Vowles would sign Franco Colapinto, and that is that Mick Schumacher and Fred Vesti are still in the running for the empty Mercedes seat.

- Liam Lawson, Oliver Bearman and Jack Doohan are currently under contract and also are either guaranteed or likely to have a F1 seat in a rival team to Williams in 2025. James does not want to train up a rival team’s driver

- Kimi Antonelli is out of the question for the same reasons

- Against this backdrop there is no reason not to sign Mick Schumacher, who literally drives the sim for Williams’ engine provider Mercedes. Or Fred Vesti, who is affiliated with Mercedes

Unless Toto Wolff was not able to give James Vowles enough comfort that Mick or Fred wouldn’t be signed to the Mercedes empty seat. In that situation James would need to sign someone “in-house” from Williams, or keep Logan.

He should have kept Logan.

nothing against theo, but like. we all agree that fred is the actual winner, no? six wins, many more podiums, but so unlucky… didn't make it to the start in spa, contact in the opening lap of zandvoort and then lost both rear tires, contact in the opening lap of monza and dnf:ed yet again…… it’s hard to win a championship with that much bad luck :(
