Wesley Willis, "Whip the Llama's Ass"
Taking another spin due to a very scholarly discussion with Music War's southern-fried uncle Fred McIntyre about how "Whip the Llama's Ass," a song by Chicago's late, great Wesley Willis, came to be the tagline for pre-iTunes digital media player Winamp.
The short answer is they liked it, but the origin of the "Whip the Llama's Ass" song itself is somewhat complex. To wit: the phrase had been a frequent line of Willis stage banter, if something "whipped the llama's ass" it rocked, particularly if it was being whipped "with a damn belt." But the seeds of the song were first sewn on 1994's "Whip a Donkey's Ass," Willis's first recorded instance of ass-whipping, which also invokes whipping a horse's ass.
While "Whip the Horse's Ass" would later appear on 1995's "Fireman Rick" album, "Whip the Llama's Ass" proper wouldn't be released for another four albums, but fortunately that was only a couple of months later. The Llama would appear once more the following year on "Suck a Llama's Dick."
