Happy Birthday to actor, hoofer, trooper, singer and former vaudevillian, William Frawley! (1887-1966) 'By 1916 he was married and had his own act, Frawley & Louise, with his wife. They were divorced in 1927. "I never married again," he says philosophically. "Once was sufficient." He likes to tell of the time they opened at the Globe Theater in Kansas City, Missouri, to an audience that was quite hungry and had brought its own lunch boxes. "The bandleader looked up at me from the pit with an expression on his face that could only mean one thing–either Louise and I were pitiful or the audience was pitiful. We thought it was the audience until after the show when the manager wanted us to forget our week's contract and just leave quietly. This made me mad and I told him we'd not only stick out the week just to make him mad but that one day we'd be back in this lousy town and we'd be playing up the street in that swanky theater that had Orpheum splashed all over it."'—article TV Guide August, 1961. #happybirthday #williamfrawley #fredmertz #ilovelucy #vaudeville #vaudevillian #orpheumtheatre #tvguide #kansascitymo #waynelvslcy #coupleactivities #piceses https://www.instagram.com/p/CpInhJGJUbh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
