     Calibri had more or less completely zoned out of whatever the teacher was saying about fifteen minutes or so into class. It wasn’t so much that she disliked Monster & Human history- she actually found it rather fascinating. But it was the last period of the day, and she was tired. After running on three and a half hour’s worth of sleep and five cups of coffee, she figured that she could afford to take it easy for one class. It was the last one of the day, anyway. She’d just make up the notes later.

     Twirling her pencil in her hand, Calibri stared longingly out the window beside her desk, just itching to set foot outside those doors. It was a beautiful day out. Sunny, but still a little chilly. Spring had just arrived, but winter was not yet over. She had so many things on her plate as of late, yet all she could think about was counting down the minutes until the bell would ring.

     Whatever it was that Calibri had been thinking about, it was pushed from her mind in an instant as the sound of the final bell reached her ears. She got up from her seat, swinging her bag over one of her shoulder and flooding out of the classroom alongside her peers. It was a bit overwhelming at the beginning of the year, but she’s long since grown used to the students all squeezing and shoving past each other, eager to get out the door and down the stairs. She didn’t even bother making the usual pit-stop by her locker like she did every day, but instead heading straight for the exit. 

     As she stepped outside, Calibri took a breath, inhaling deeply as the cold winter breeze brushed her face and fur. She didn’t know what was so satisfying about stepping outside after a long day of school, but sometimes it was one of the best feelings in the world. Or was it just her? Yeah, probably just her. Her routine was the same as it’s always been; Leave school building, walk to park, pick up Manila, go home, rinse, repeat.

     But it seemed that today, things were going to go a little differently. 

     As she walked across the courtyard, she thought she heard someone call her name. No, she knew for a fact that someone called her name. Her big ears were hardly ever wrong, not to mention she was the only ‘Calibri’ in the entire school. Her ears turned towards the sound a second before her head did, emerald eyes darting across the courtyard to see who had just called her name. Didn’t take long, of course.. But she almost didn’t believe it.

     “Is... Is that...?”

     No. No, no it wasn’t. Was it? There was only one blue fire elemental she knew, and that was..

     It was him!

     “Maipe..?? Maipe!!”
