Nat does like the child though he just doesn't realize he is an option. Like is definitely nurturing the child but also does not realize how attached Tom is to him. Also Nat wants to find the best possible person but his standards are through the roof. And he thinks he falls below those too, so of course he can't take Tom.

FNat is having a great time. Could an emotionally stable person make such nice blanket burritos?
But on the making a fake Tom thing, the image of Tom would make him very sad, but I think he would talk to what mementos he has of him. Just small things, like Tom was still there.
