This folk album is a powerful testament of being a person of color in America with songs delving into the experiences of slavery, the civil rights era, and the current movement for black lives against police brutality. The title track is a 1965 civil rights song made famous by The Staple Singers, but I would say the most powerful song is "Julie" which is a dialogue between a slave and her 'owner' when it's revealed the slave's children have been sold by the white woman who is currently professing her affection for the slave woman.
