Recently started playing this game, and I just want to boost it (to my zero followers lolol). The creator's games are all interesting, but this is by far my favourite.
You're visiting a monster department store (much like Kowloon Walled City, it has been built up over years, has a mystery number of floors, and is essentially a lawless zone). You want to find the underground video store, but you have no idea what floor it's on. When you get in the elevator, a camera monster asks you what floor you want to go to, and you are given a blank to fill in. Most floors won't work, so you must try to figure out what floors you can go to through talking to various monsters on the floors you manage to find. But the denizens of each floor change according to the day of the week in real time, so you have to check back every day for a little bit to see if you can progress.
I love the idea, the vibes, and the style so much! If you speak Japanese or don't mind muddling through, I highly recommend!
I often stalk freem and other websites looking for good free BL games, and I wanted to share some of the recent good ones I have found in case anyone is interested, and also so I can look again later!
Unfortunately these are all in Japanese and I am not aware of an English translation.
I will add some info in case anyone might be interested but scared to go in blind. If there is any weird stuff/gore/dub-con I will note it! Because personally, I don’t like to be surprised, haha. On to the list!

All ages - some gore/death. This one is more friendshippy than romance, and there is no truly “good” ending, so I was upset about that. What makes this one special enough to go in the list is that it is based on the SCP canon. The SCP in this story is a made up one, SCP-801 (harhar). When you full complete the game you will gain access to read the SCP file. I just thought that was really cool.
The story is that you are at a mountain shrine with your childhood friend, when something really miraculous and weird happens to him. You decide to head home for now but at your friend’s house is a strange man asking to take your friend in for testing. With no idea who he is or what will happen to your friend, you both decide to run. Interesting, right?

JRPG but it’s BL!! (update: currently down)

All ages - irreverent humour including sexual themes (it does get pretty risque but nothing is shown). The idea behind this game is that it is a regular jprg but the main two characters are gay lovers. You can equip items such as matching wedding rings that have huge stat boosts, and a lot of the dialogue involves your cool and collected boyfriend getting super lowkey jealous. I cannot tell you enough how charming this game is!! I laughed so much.
Although it is a very short game made in rpgmaker by the author as a test, I assure you it is a full story with lovable characters. You do have to fight monsters to progress, but I recommend using a lightning move every turn if you find a battle hard, as it will cause the opponent to flinch every time. That is the only way I was able to beat the final boss. But the real charm of this story is talking to everyone in every map, again and again. When you have done something, or a new character joins your party, go talk to everyone again, even in the first town! It is so worth it!!

All ages - This one is very feel-good! NO gore or stalking or sad endings!! /\(T T) A blessing on this game maker. This is a very short game about making bentos for your high school crush. You can choose whether to make fancy bentos with hearts or plainer ones. It is mostly comedic. Depending on how lovey-dovey your choices are, you will end up as seme or uke - but there is only a kiss in this game.

Ages 12+ - mention of drugs and suicide. This game is made by cream△, who also made kami-sama no hitsugi and powder grey. My impression of their games is that they are almost all bad-end feel-bad fests which will always include (1) at least one yandere best friend and (2) drugging/confinement. I can deal with 1 but 2 is a big no-no for me. This game does pull out the drugs but there is no dub-con or drugging/confinement in this game. It seems like your character also has feelings for the other boy no matter what route you choose, so basically the question is will you save him. For me this game is just spicy enough without being TOO spicy. I recommend if you are up for that (’v’)bb.

Ages 15+ - sexual content and some yandere themes. I played this game a long time ago, but it has really stuck with me so I wanted to include it. I apologize if I am wrong and there are any explicit CGs in this game but I’m almost 100% sure there are not. The theme is “mono morai” a word for pink-eye in Japanese, which also sounds the same as “receiving gifts”. It’s about a boy who got pink-eye a lot as a child, and who also is troubled by receiving gifts. His best friend from childhood is hinting very strongly he wants them to date, but the main boy already has a girlfriend and is not sure about a relationship with another boy. There are a few different endings where you end up in an explicitly romantic relationship with the friend or stay with the girlfriend, or neither, though most of them are pretty spicy. It’s difficult to get a purely good ending in this game but also none of them are horrendous or terrible in my opinion. I recommend it if you like childhood friend stories.
