your art is always colored so nicely, would you ever share the coloring process or tips? <3 :)
ahh you're so sweet thank you! I got a similar question from another anon months ago so apologies that it's taken me so long to answer.
I wish I could give a more step-by-step answer, but honestly most of my coloring process is intuitive and haphazard. Depending on how much stamina I have for a piece, I usually put down all the flats and do some basic shading within the lines. Once I've got that guide, I save it all to one layer and then go ham painting over everything. I also use some adjustment layers.
Here is an example of my basic shading and then the final piece. I didn't like the colors in the original piece, so I adjusted the curves to make it more green and then I just painted over everything with my favorite Procreate brushes.
Also values!! I'm still a learner in that regard, but it's really fun to explore. For example, in the piece below, I color-picked the darkest shade, then I dragged the little color dot thing to the most saturated version of that value. That way it adds a pop of color without compromising the value of the piece. Hopefully that makes sense. When I'm painting, I like to use a black and white layer every once and a while to make sure I've still got good values.
I just love color so much. I love using it for story too: I tend to use the same color schemes for characters to hint at parts of their story. For example, there are a bunch of pieces of Leiko with hints of blue in there, as a little nod to his future as a Jedi. Or with the art above, really saturated green on Mai's hand, the same color as Nat's eyes. Or with this piece of Mai and Nuri: there are little patches of purple on both of their faces, to symbolize the light-saber crystal that they share.
One thing that has helped me with my art process is just giving a little less of a fuck. I used to get really stressed if things didn't look quite right or were out of the lines. One of the weird silver linings of the generative AI "art" wave has been that I've cared a little less about things being perfect. That just means it's human!!
I hope that helps and answers your question!! ♡
