Independence! They've been riding their bikes to their fort building camp all week, which definitely caused some anxiety on my part. It's only 7 blocks away, but they have to cross a really busy road and I have to just trust that they'll make it there and back (my kids do not have phones). They are absolutely loving the newfound freedom, though, which makes me remember my childhood. I would leave on my bike, return for meals and had absolutely no way to call my parents - all summer long. I don't remember my parents having any anxiety or fear about my freedom, but it was a different time and place It's hard to let go and build that kind of trust with my kids in a big city ( I grew up in a small farming community), but I know that they need to build confidence and geographical awareness.
