Oh, I have to be very careful with how I phrase this ...😅 Well, it's Juke. 

As repeatedly mentioned, I do have my issues with pre-character-development Luke. So, I went back and forth with them a lot - it was a rollercoaster. 

Here's a summary of my 2021 Juke ride (at least what I remember):

As an active participant ... about 5 years. 

As a passive, purely consuming member ... Well, One Piece first aired here in 2003.😅 So, twenty years and counting. 

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

Thankfully, no. But I've heard rumors about how the JATP fandom -- or parts of it -- used to be. I think that would have driven me away. (Almost glad for being a year late.😅)

6. What do you use to keep your place when you’re reading a book?

Whatever is nearby, usually a receipt or a (clean) tissue/napkin. Sometimes I’ll use a sticky note or another piece of paper/mail. Never an actual bookmark though 😂

9. What sounds or scents calm you down?

Hmm…the sound of popcorn popping, garlic and onions frying in butter, etc. etc. because then I know food is coming 🤤 (just kidding, kinda)

17. What’s the last thing you ordered online?

I wish I could say it was something cool, but alas…it was actually a grocery order because it was -40 and carting a baby around in that weather is not my idea of a good time 😅

Ohhh I love writing about the importance of inanimate objects, you know the way to my heart. Thank you, Imène! Hope you like it 🧡

The Molina’s have a lot of couches. Like more than a normal three-person family should have.

But the perks of a lot of couches around the house also meant that Luke could easily cuddle with Julie at any given point in time.

Sometimes they’d be laying on the grey one in front of the fireplace, sipping on hot cocoa in a comfortable silence, listening to the fire crackle.

Some days, you’d find them on the orange one in the main living room, watching some 90’s rom-com on the television.

But their favourite spot? It sat in the corner of Julie’s room - the bright yellow couch decorated with throw pillows and a soft blanket, illuminated by the colourful lanterns hanging down from the ceiling.

Rose and an eight year old Julie had picked it out at a local flea market during one of their weekly trips, and it became one of the pieces that stayed constant in her ever-changing bedroom.

It wasn’t like they had set out to claim it as their spot, but when Julie started letting Luke hang out in her room, he felt a weird pull towards the bright piece of furniture.

It’s where the couple found themselves tonight, curled up against each other, the sounds of her vinyl player and the rain pelting against the window filling the room.

“This might be my favourite place in the world.” Luke mumbles quietly into her hair as they’re workshopping a new song. She doesn’t think she’s heard him correctly, but the blush creeping up her neck says otherwise.

She tilts her head back, peering up at him through her lashes and teases, “I thought the studio couch was your favourite?”

Luke vibrates below her with a soft laugh and presses a kiss to her forehead. “Anywhere with you is my favourite place, Jules.”

Ooo #62 is Starting Line by Luke Hemmings!

Oh man this gives me some sad/angsty but also very sweet Juke vibes.

Luke is kind of going through it a bit (another fight with his parents) and he comes up with these lines that he can’t shake:

I wake up every morning with the years ticking by I'm missing all these memories, maybe they were never mine I feel the walls are closin', I'm running out of the time I think I missed the gun at the starting line

Like maybe he starts to second guess the happy memories he had with his parents as a child since they fight so much now, and he hates fighting with them because he doesn’t want to spend his life completely estranged from them (this would obviously be an au lol).

Anyways he’s trying to figure out the rest of the song and Julie walks in on him. She doesn’t say much about it, but can sense that something’s off because, y’know, soulmates, and instead spends the next hour just making him laugh/getting his mind off whatever’s bothering him. When she has to leave, he finally comes up with the first verse to the song, about those moments with Julie that he cherishes so much because she never fails to comfort him.

Julie rubs over the numbers on her wrist before sliding the bracelet she always wears back in place. She’s nervous. The timer that has been counting down since the day of her birth will hit 0 in a couple minutes. She’s been waiting to meet her soulmate since she knew what the timer meant, but suddenly she wonders if she’s ready. Today her life is going to change and it’s scary. 

She enters the bar where she’s supposed to meet Flynn. The air is warm and stuffy, and her gaze is immediately drawn to the band on stage tonight. She hasn’t seen them before, but she can’t help but bop her head with the rhythm as she tries to find Flynn. They are somewhere between rock and pop it seems, guitar driven with a strong drum beat. 

Their music is good, very good actually but what really draws her eye is the lead singer. Look, Julie’s always had a thing for guys with guitars, and this one is especially nice to look at. Brown, messy hair plastered to his skin with sweat, intense eyes, so green she can tell from halfway across the room and arms that are very nice to look at. He croons into the mic with a voice that is maybe a little on the higher side for the kind of music they do, but he makes up for it with some nice growls and rasps. 

She finds Flynn at the counter and her friend immediately slides her a drink. Julie smiles thankful. With a last burst of noise the band finishes their song.

“We’re Sunset Curve!” The bassist yells into his microphone. “Tell you friends.” 

“They’re good.” Julie nods towards the stage. “I might have to look them up.”

“Yeah.” Flynn nods. “Also, some nice eye candy.” She grins.

Julie laughs. “Yeah, the singer is sure something.” 

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Comes a laugh from behind her. Julie whirls around and is faced with those intense green eyes. She blushes. 

The beep of their timers is audible over the noise of people in the bar. 

Green eyes raises an eyebrow. “I think you might be my soulmate.”

Luke’s strumming at his guitar, but it’s less to make a melody and more to feel the tactile buzz of the strings under his calloused fingertips. It’s warm, even in the shade under the big tree where Carlos insisted they lay down the blanket. The distant sounds of Carlos and Ray and Reggie playing frisbee (”Over here!” “To me!”), combined with the soft hum of bugs and birds, are making Luke sleepy.

Having his head pillowed in Julie’s lap is making him sleepy, too. She keeps playing with his hair, intermittently switching between putting little braids in it and just scritching in a way that makes Luke understand cats. Makes him wish he was Julie’s cat in another life, or something. Or maybe that’s weird. No, yeah, that’s definitely weird.

Whatever. He’s really happy. And a little sleepy. This rules.

“I wanna write a song about this,” he says, and as he’s saying it he sort-of half yawns around his words.

Julie understands him anyway, because she always does, and if she doesn’t she at least tries, because she’s awesome and his favourite person ever. “About what? The park?”

“This specific tree. And like, the breeze that’s going on right now. And being here with you.”

When he blinks up at her, her nose has wrinkled up and she’s rolling her eyes, but she’s smiling, which means he’s done his job. “Alright, Sinatra. Soak in the atmosphere. Then write me a song about being here in the park with this breeze and this tree.”

“And you,” he insists.

“And me,” she acquiesces.

A little more deliberate now, his fingers search for a tune on the guitar that captures it. Something light, he thinks, but full of love. Maybe something in A Major.

The problem is, he’s so relaxed he can barely think about music, which is a first. Staring up at Julie, the wind makes her hair gently move around just like the tree leaves above them. Both her hair and the leaves let little sprinkles of sunlight fall onto his face, but her smile is a whole different kind of sunshine. He got told never to look into the sun as a kid. If her smile is like the sun, he plans on breaking that rule for as long as he can.

He can feel his eyelids getting droopy again. Something in A Major. Maybe with a suspended seventh, though. Just to bring out the sense of something bigger. Something in A Major...

“When we say he plays in his sleep, we aren’t kidding,” comes Alex’s voice from somewhere above him, and Luke cracks open one eye as his friend nudges him in the side with his shoe.

“I’m not sleeping,” Luke replies primly. “I’m soaking in the atmosphere.”

“Yeah, get with the program, Alex,” Julie laughs, and runs her fingers through Luke’s hair again, fingernails grazing his scalp.

“‘M Sinatra,” Luke mumbles.

“Alright, Sinatra,” Alex snorts. “Enjoy your nap.”

Luke really, really does.
