BREAKING: Tension In Abuja As Shiite Regroup For Fresh Protest
The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiite, has threatened to continue with the #FreeZakzaky protest in Abuja, saying that attempt to proscribe the group by the government would plunge the country into crisis. The spokesperson for the movement, Abdullahi Musa, stated this on Tuesday in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters. He said the group does not carry arms as been insinuated by the government and security agencies. He warned the government to have a rethink before prescribing the movement as a terrorist group. Musa said, "Yes, we will come out to protest. Anybody that is planning to proscribe the movement is planning to put this country into crisis so that they will benefit because they have been benefiting from it.” He explained that the government had benefited from the previous crisis of the Boko Haram terrorist group. He accused the government of promoting the killings of their members just as he vowed not to be intimidated or suppressed by the guns. He stated that it is their constitutional right to protest and demand justice. “It is our constitutional right and we must protest. The only thing is to free him and let him go for treatment. Armed robbers, kidnappers and Boko Haram have been treated in this country, so let him go for treatments," Musa said. He debunked the allegation that members of the group killed the Deputy Commissioner of Police. He said that they never killed anybody because they are not trained to kill people. He said that the police officer was killed as a result of indiscriminate shooting by the police. He admitted that the officer came close to them to appeal with the protesters but was hit by a stray bullet from behind which pierced through his head. He said, "That is a big lie and it is a shame for them saying this. They said that he was trying to talk to us but the bullet came behind him. Who was behind him? The police officers killed a lot of people, even innocent people that were walking on the street. They were the ones that shot him, are we armed?” As of the time of filing this report, the group has started mobilising their members to regroup for another round of protest. Read the full article

Prince Adeyanju Deji was today in Abuja crowned by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as the Hero of Freedom and Prince of Justice.
Others who were honoured at the event organised by the Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee include Ms Ndi Kato, Barrister Femi Falana SAN, Prof Chidi Odinkalu and Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
The colourful event was attended by rights activists, journalists and members of the Islamic Movement from far and wide across the country.
Describing Adeyanju Deji in the brief citation, Dr Shuaibu said Deji is a fearless and brave Lion who attended several Free Zakzaky protests including outside Abuja.
“He was a live witness when Nigerian army shot at the peaceful protesters in Kaduna during the Quds Procession two years ago.”
He was the convener of the famous Sit Out at the Unity Fountain last year that sat for about a hundred consecutive days that kept the Free Zakzaky Campaign alive and provided victims to voice out what had happened to them or their loved ones during the Zaria massacre of December 2015.
Dr. Shuaibu mentioned that Prince Deji was arrested severally for Free Zakzaky campaign activities. “During one of such arrests, he was approached by a team comprising of Abuja Police Commissioner, the Commandant of the Brigade of guards and other top security agents to dissuade him from the Free Zakzaky Campaign to no avail,” he said.
That is why today we are saying “Thank you, we are grateful of your support!”
The award was received on behalf of Deji by his associate, Ariyo who also delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of Deji. Ms Ndi Kato gave the acceptance speech on behalf of the other recipients.
It was a very successful outing in spite of the government’s attempts at foiling the event.
