What language will the reader speak in your new Will fic? Obviously it will be written in English but will there be times she speaks French or German etc.? I only ask because I try and imagine accents in my mind when reading so it will give her character ☺️
It will absolutely be written in English, but @steeevienicks and I are trying our hand at putting some French and German into the dialogue at appropriate times!
Reader is multilingual (English, French, German, Danish), and remember it’s you so if you like to play with accents then have fun thinking about what your own voice might sound like!
Can you answer 1, 4 and 13 for the Feidlyn ask game please? It’s fascinating that you’ve made a country 😱
1. What is a Freidlyn? What are the people called?
Freidlyn is a little country in mainland western Europe! And, as you may have noticed from the other Fun Fact Ask posts, its people are called Freidlych. Hundreds of years ago it was a disputed territory between France and Germany before it declared its independence.
4. What are some common names in this fancy little place? Here are the top 10 baby names of the 80s, when most of our main characters were all born!
Girls:
Carolina
Manon
Sabine
Elsie
Astrid
Hanna
Sofie
Iman
Lilia
Nicola
Boys:
Rainier
Ezra
Laurent
Henri
Klaus
William
Micah
Casper
Edmund
Frederick
13. What is their national holiday like?
Like most Freidlych celebrations, the day centers around family and food. There is a morning parade featuring ranking members of the royal family as well as nobility through the downtown area of the capital, after which nationally sponsored tv channels will play either family friendly films or specifically films about national history (like if American tv played The Patriot, Saving Private Ryan, and the filmed performance of Hamilton after a Fourth of July parade).
At family meals, books and handmade gifts are exchanged between generations and there is usually dancing afterward as extended family and close friends begin to visit larger family gatherings. After dancing is when cake and liquor is had - because all that dancing is really just to make room for more food.

Congrats on the milestone! You absolutely deserve it! ❤️ Also I am so excited for your new story! I’d love to know the answer to 5 and 11 please ☺️
5. What kind of food do they eat?
They grow a lot of fantastic produce, and something the country is really known for are their jams. Any fruit you can cook down without is dissolving gets turned into a jam, and jams from Freidlyn are exported all over the world. Some of the best hotels in the world stock only Taullier & Keyle spreads make in the Freidlych countryside.
A winter dinner of beef stew with lots of veggies and barley isn't complete without crusty bread and sharp cheese on the side, and a traditional birthday cake is flavoured with honey and spices then studded with dried fruit.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if you were looking to have a normal Freidlych meal to start your day, it would be fried potatoes with an egg or two (probably also fried) with a muffin or some more of that good, crusty bread slathered in butter and jam. Of course there's coffee, but the folks there are also crazy about herbal tea.
11. Are they known for any particular part of their culture?
The theater and the opera are an extremely big deal in Freidlyn. For hundreds of years they have put a great deal of effort and hard work into their storytelling with emphasis on the performing arts. The Opéra Royal has a dedicated box for the reigning monarch, and an invitation from the royal family to attend the opera together is considered the highest honour.
Any theater lover making a tour of Europe absolutely must stop in Freidlyn’s capital city to see a show on the Rue du Gaz - their version of Broadway. Nicknamed for the gas burning streetlights that went up along the avenue in the 1800s, Rue du Gaz is where you’ll find some of the very best theaters in the country as well as some of the best restaurants.
The country also claims some wonderful composers throughout its history, and is still considered one of the best places in the world for classical musicians to train.
