Freja Skov x Former Overwatch!Reader

When word of the recall hit, Freja had expected you to readily join up. Your sense of duty had always been strong, and it just made sense to her that you'd go back. Overwatch had been everything to you, and you had done a lot of mental gymnastics to ignore the less positive things going on.

Knowledge that you weren't among the dead in Gibraltar after Talon's attack brought Freja a surprising sense of relief. She had joined Talon for Emre, but you had been there for her after he left.

For a little while, you tried following in her footsteps, but as Gefn's notoriety grew, you found yourself unable to help her in good conscious. Her jobs weren't nearly as noble, and you feared watching her lose herself to it.

Vendetta didn't know to keep tabs on you until Moira mentioned you. Freja could have killed the woman then and there for that, and Emre brings it up after the meeting because before then, Freja had been mainly disinterested in the things going on.

She takes a job to be close to you for the sake of checking in. You can tell she's watching you despite her best efforts, but it's nothing Vendetta could ever find out about without Sombra.

Freja watches you periodically, and once you find out her schedule, you start leaving little things for her. A mug of tea or glass of bourbon on the balcony like what you used to share at headquarters. Eventually, she takes the invitations and lets herself back in your life.

You don't talk about Talon or Overwatch's reinstatement. She doesn't mention Emre, but she seems conflicted as the two of you grow closer. You can tell she's holding onto something by the guilt she carries.

Freja doesn't let herself get comfortable in your civilian life despite the deep desire to just let it all go and live with you. She can't abandon Emre until they figure his shit out, but in the meantime, she can spend her free time with you.

Emre accepts the shift away from a romantic relationship with Freja when she tells him there's someone else. She doesn't even have to say it's you, Emre had always known that you were as close to competition as he'd ever have.

He doesn't even argue when she tells him that she's throwing in the towel when he's sorted himself out. Freja knows she has more than enough money to retire and Vendetta finds it easy enough to just buy her silence.

Freja's restless when she finally joins you, but she's also enthusiastic about finding a mundane routine. It takes time, but she falls into a comfortable life with you, much better than she thought she deserved.

"Retirement" had always meant death to Freja, and in some ways, it had to you too, but together, you start a life together far away from the tangled mess that Talon and Overwatch weaved together.

Freja had a routine, one that made her the best at what she did. Some bounty hunters went straight in for their prize, but Freja liked to watch. She liked to know her target's routine. There was a lot to be revealed by someone's day to day. Sometimes it made the job easier, but this time, it left Freja conflicted. She hadn't felt guilty about a job since she had started, but Freja didn't know what it was about you specifically that made her feel so bad.

You had been at the wrong place at the right time. Freja had been told who you had saved, some engineer that multiple people wanted dead. For that, they wanted you to pay, but Freja wasn't sure the price was reasonable. She was being offered over a hundred million for this, even more so if she brought back your dead body. Somehow in saving a random civilian, you managed to convince a global threat that you were their greatest enemy.

"Good evening Mrs. Chang." Freja watched as you happily greeted an old woman who had been sat at the front of the bus for nearly an hour. The woman smiled back at you as she asked about your day. The interaction was just one of many that had led Freja to believe you left the world better than you had found it. "Hello."

"Hi," Freja mumbled. You sat down next to her, despite all the empty seats around the two of you. She didn't recognize you, not that you blamed her. Your stint at Overwatch had been short, barely a month before the whole organization imploded on itself. Freja had been one of the agents in charge of your training as part of the search and rescue team.

"It's been a long time, Agent Skov." You didn't look over at her, but the subtle shift in her body was enough to know you had hit something. "Although, I guess it's been a while since anyone has called you that, isn't it? What do you go by now?"

"Gefn, and you are full of surprises, aren't you?" Freja questioned. You shrugged as you popped the top of your thermos up to take a sip of your tea. Freja studied you for a couple of moments as you pretended that your heart wasn't racing. The presents for saving that man in the town square had been extravagant, and sending Freja after you was just over the top from his opposition.

"Life is full of surprises. I don't know what that man did, but I am not guilty of his crimes. I just did my job. I'm only ever here to help," you told her. Freja frowned as the bus came to a slow stop. Mrs. Chang stepped off, leaving the two of you alone now. "My stop isn't for a few more miles, last one of the night. Wait until we're off of here to do it, I wouldn't want Sam to see anything."

"You're a good person. I'm sorry that things are like this," Freja apologized.

"So am I. You were a hero once, and I doubt the money makes up for losing your purpose the way you did. I know that I felt lost when the Petras Act passed," you said. It was nice to get that off your chest. Whenever someone had brought up your attempt at serving in Overwatch, you always just told them it was necessary at the time. You didn't agree in the slightest, but you couldn't let yourself go off the deep end with that particular issue.

"You were in Overwatch? You seem kind of young for that," Freja pointed out.

"I had just enlisted actually. I was going to be a battle medic with S&R. Dr. Ziegler pushed me towards some different programs after everything, but nothing fit as well until I moved here for a fresh start. I ran around for years, and once I find my place in the world, it costs me everything," you laughed dryly. Freja frowned at this and sat back as the bus came to its final stop. "Come on, let's go."

"No, you go on, but keep your head down. Just keep a low profile and I'll figure something out," Freja told you. It was a big opportunity, one that you wouldn't waste.

"Thank you, Agent Skov. Maybe you should come by sometime when you aren't here to kill me."
