It’s time for some French poetry! This manuscript features a collection of 310 poems by Guillaume de Machaut, Oton de Grandson, Brisebare de Douai, Eustache Deschamps, Philippe de Vitry, and others. It was composed in France, some time around 1400 CE.

This book about was made by Sieur P...e S...e Lieutenant de Frégate, 1781 and remained on board, while he trained many new midshipmen over the years. He registered every student in the back and it was expanded over the years. At least he created his own schoolbook about astronomical and nautical observations

May is here and we dedicate our week to Spring! Let's start with this beautiful book of hours, Ms. Codex 1056, which was produced in Rouen around 1475 CE and was illuminated for a local woman. Here a gorgeous floral border and the two pages dedicated to the month of May!

Ms. Codex 113 - [La chimie, couleurs, parfumerie]
Perfumes! This manuscript features a collection of recipes and instructions for making colors, perfumes, soap, dyes, engraving, illuminating, making marble paper, making mirrors, preserving wine, etc. It contains over 200 different recipes and instructions in French. It was written somewhere in France in the 16th century.

Ms. Codex 850 - [Collection of French poetry]
This manuscript is a collection of 16th-century French poetry, including ballades and rondeaux, by Adrien de Saint-Gelais, Anne de Graville, André de la Vigne, Richard de la Porte, and Jean Marot, with additions perhaps by Robert de la Porte, son of original owner Richard de la Porte. It was possibly written in Rouen, before 1560 CE.

Ms. Codex 867 - [Chrestomathy of Latin authors]
Written possibly in Paris in 1540, this manuscript is a student's copybook, mostly containing excerpts from Latin authors such as Strabo, Quintilian, Virgil, and Cicero, but also including some astrological material and a collection of Virgil excerpts that supposedly foreshadow the Old and New Testaments. Jacobus Dinetus - the author - dedicated it to his father Johannes. The writer has added numerous marginal notes.
