I haven’t seen Go! Princess PreCure, and this video probably has spoilers (it definitely spoils the end of Close, the really shocking villain death of the series), but I watched it anyway.

Though TBH with this video I was most impressed by the fact that all the French words in the attacks are pronounced correctly, or as correctly as katakana can approximate them, anyway. I knew, from checking out this list of words in Japanese that come from French, that the katakana pronunciations of most French-origin words were pretty spot-on, but for a magical girl series that is probably just using French words to sound fancy, that they got it so right is amazing.

The real impressive one is “PreCure Grand Printemps,” which has several nasal vowels (any vowel followed by m or n is nasal in French).

So yeah I’m a French nerd. (I have a French minor and scored Intermediate overall on the Test d'Évaluation de Français, an official government test). Not sorry.
