Tagetes patula 'Pots of Gold'. In this part of Italy, French marigolds start flowering in June and bloom all summer and up until a serious frost (usually in November here). Over five full months of flowers on a centuries-old companion plant of happy vegetable gardens, now cultivated nearly everywhere in organic gardens as a way of attracting beneficial insects and keeping harmful soil nematodes and flying insects away. Are they really French? If you need a shorter variety, #frenchmarigolds are not as upright as the African types and are very aromatic. And this French variety takes it one step further with interesting bicolor #blooms of pink, rose and yellow that change color throughout the season - when it's warm, you'll see yellow-pink #flowers and then cooler temps bring out more pink-plum tones.
