In this photograph taken for the September 1980 issue of French Vogue, Dell’Orefice is wearing a Chanel dress made from velour and satin fabric by Hurel and Carlotto. • Norman Parkinson first photographed Dell’Orefice in 1949 and worked with her for decades after. In his book ‘Lifework’, Parkinson describes Dell’Orefice as “hilariously funny but wise, electrically charged with the ability to reject the absurdity of the rat race circuit, always ready to lift those expressive, recently European eyes to question the pompous or over-sycophantic.
