For those who’ve asked what the pieces made from the black clay will look like once fired and glazed here is one of my test pieces. I’ve used a colored glaze inside and on the top and left the bottom of the cup unglazed. While I love how this glaze has turned out, Ive seen some pieces with a clear glaze and they looked Devine. Quite elegant. I’ll be trimming the pieces and throwing more over the next few days. Then I’m hoping to get them all in for their first firing by the end of next week. At home trimming some pots I’d thrown a few weeks ago and, we’re still quite wet earlier in the week - to wet fir trimming but then dried out almost too much (the stone looking ones). Then decided to throw a few more from the black clay. No measuring done here. Wish I had as I’d like to make more of these shapes. Learn the traditional Japanese indigo resist-dyeing technique of Nui (stitched) Shibori with Donna Gordge of Stitch Paint Burn. This technique tends to be a bit more controlled than some other shibori methods, and lends itself to graphic shapes and simple images. In this 6 hour workshop, you will: learn about working with a fructose fermentation indigo vat mix your own indigo vat for use in the workshop and to take home and continue using explore a range of nui shibori techniques experiment with dyeing different fabric types. Materials: You'll be supplied with fabric samples to work with and all dye vat ingredients. You might also like to bring your own pre-washed natural fibre fabric items to dye, but not essential. Please BYO bucket with tight-fitting lid (about 10 litres). ....
