“You say that like it’s possible.” He sighed, fingers frustratedly running through his hair. He was trying not to lash out, he didn’t want to, but she was being ridiculous and he couldn’t handle it. Nathan was never one for dramatics, whenever an issue arose he chose to walk away. In a situation like this one though, he couldn’t. He just didn’t understand though. “You’re my best friend, Lauren. Nobody can replace you.” There was a seethe inwards of breath after this, a careless shrug as he continued. “I mean, maybe Chelsea McKenzie who bakes some seriously good cakes. But you know she hated me since Grade 5 when I threw her shoe over the fence.” Maybe now wasn’t the time to crack jokes, but he needed something to lighten the mood. This was a nightmare, worse than a nightmare, and something he never imagined happening. Be friends with someone else? And throw away the last twenty years? What a waste. “There’s no one but you.” These words were exaggerated, but they held so much truth. He knew his life without her, he’d lived with that in France, and he hated it.

"Can't you just be happy for me?"

“What do you want? A smile, a pat on the back, a toast of champagne?” As each word passed his lips a further hint of sarcasm followed - he had to hold back the roll of his eyes, too, because that would sure as hell make the situation worse. “‘Ahh yes, my best friend is choosing another man over me, how fabulous.’” It wasn’t quite there, but it was on the verge of it, and he almost kicked himself for it. I’m the one that loves you he wanted to say. But how do you just say that to someone you’ve known your whole life? You can’t. It could ruin everything. Therefore he covered for himself. “He’s an asshole, Lauren,” he said, kicking at the dirt below them, as if he needed something to do rather than let his mind rant about his actions.Nathan resembled the overprotective father in Lauren’s life - always watching out for the men that grew close to her. He said he could ‘read them well’, but really he was so filled with jealousy he always said no. And this, it seemed, could end disastrously. “Plus, I’m totally cooler.” He shrugged. The grin almost curved on a single corner of his lips, but he stopped it. Now wasn’t the time.

"Just fuck off."

“Jeez, stay calm why don’t you?” His eyebrows creased with confusion, even if he knew what was wrong. She was angry again, because he was an asshole, again. Maybe it was the way he sounded, with the overuse of sarcasm and the constant pushing to control her life. Not control, that was too harsh, but he felt like he should know what was going on. That and he was too scared of her getting hurt. “Fine, I get it, you’re pissed off and you’re taking it out on me. And I know it’s sort of my fault but ... I already said sorry alright? Like, fifty times. Just know that, please. I’m sorry.” He was begging, begging now for forgiveness, but he could see in her eyes that it wasn’t going to come anytime soon.  “And I’m gonna go now, before my head’s bitten off.” He awkwardly pointed towards the door, slowly and clumsily moving backwards towards it. He needed to get out of there, give her some time to think. The last thing Nathan needed was an argument, these two weren’t supposed to argue. Sunshine and rainbows, that was the game. It didn’t seem to be working that way today.

i'm not gonna be very active this weekend because i have my national cheerleading comp, so i'll be focused on that really. and then after that i have my final script due on the 9th so i'm gonna be on/off working on that because i need to get at least a credit to maintain my gpa.

that being said, i know i already am shit at replying, and i say this all the time -- but replies will come i promise. ily all i'm not ditching you trust me.
